About Baton Rouge

Located on the banks of the Mississippi river in southeastern Louisiana, Baton Rouge is the state capital with more than 800,000 residents (the second largest city in the state). Famous for its fusion of cultures, Southern hospitality, diverse cuisine and college football, it is also a significant port and a major industrial and petrochemical center.
Our Baton Rouge operations began in 1909 and have grown into an integrated complex that includes the Baton Rouge Refinery, the third largest refinery in the United States, the Baton Rouge Chemical Plant and several other plants and terminals. Its scope of products produced includes everything from traditional gasoline and diesel fuel to sophisticated chemical compounds that are used in diapers, shampoos, truck bed liners, makeup, crayons and hundreds more!
As the second largest employer in the state, our daily challenges include safely operating eight interconnected sites on a round-the-clock basis. We\xe2\x80\x99re required to constantly adjust and respond to fluctuating markets and resource availability. We oversee the production of more than 2.9 billion pounds of products annually, while constantly searching for ways to improve and optimize our operations.

What role you will play in our team

• 
  The Public and Government Affairs Advisor (P&GA) will be responsible for developing and implementing the P&GA strategy for ExxonMobil Low Carbon Solutions\xe2\x80\x99 Louisiana portfolio of projects that enhances the corporate brand and advances business objectives
• The successful candidate will provide integrated public affairs services to business leaders throughout Louisiana with focus on providing operational support to business lines, developing and implementing public/government affairs initiatives in line with business objectives, managing media and integrated communications, community engagement and giving programs as well as emergency response support for LCS projects in the designated area
• The position is based in either Lafayette or Baton Rouge, Louisiana

What you will do

• 
  Develop a localized tactical plan for building and maintaining programs and engagement activities that will favorably position the LCS business presence and promote a positive impact on the community
• Build, maintain and strengthen relationships with members of the community, local elected officials, community groups, charitable organizations, and other local key stakeholders
• Serve as the primary point of contact responsible for sharing the LCS vision with the local community to enhance our presence
• Participate in community outreach programs and coordinate special events as appropriate that promote the LCS business and public perception of the company
• Draft and distribute communications that promote the company as well as individuals and groups within it
• Attend relevant events and activities to represent the company and build strong relationships with key community members and elected officials
• Respond to inquiries from community members and other parties, and recruit knowledgeable LCS spokespeople or information sources for assistance when needed
• Build and promote cross-functional relationships within the company to include existing asset-based P&GA teams, State GR, Communications, Media Relations and other corporate functions
• In partnership with the LCS Regional P&GA Manager, plan, coordinate, and execute public meetings and/or other public opportunities
• Monitor the public conversation and changes in sentiment towards low-carbon projects that may impact the LCS business; develop or modify local engagement plans to address as needed
• Work collaboratively with third-party PR agency to support the broader LCS P&GA strategy and address local concerns as/if they arise
• Identify traditional media and social media opportunities to enhance LCS\xe2\x80\x99s local profile and promote

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring proactive protection of the interests and reputation of ExxonMobil Low Carbon Solutions and for favorably positioning the company through proactive messaging \xe2\x80\x93 creating and seizing on opportunities in support of this strategy both internally and externally. They will engender deep credibility through trust, consistency and strong interpersonal skills, both within and outside the company, while adhering to the highest standards of ethics and a strong culture of compliance and authenticity.
Skills and Qualifications

• 
  Superior written and spoken communications skills
• Understanding of and experience with news media
• Ability to write compelling content for various channels
• Demonstrated success in developing and delivering public relations strategies and plans in complex organization
• Ability to write and execute a strategic communication plans
• Ability to plan and manage complex public-facing events
• Experience in oil & gas, manufacturing, or industrial sectors helpful but not required
• Manage quickly changing priorities and/or external events that impact business goals
• Strong interpersonal skills; team player
• Business/industry knowledge

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

• 
  At least 10 years years of relevant public relations and/or community relations experience
• Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree minimum (in public relatations, communications, public/government affairs, preferred)
