Position Description Summary/Purpose: This position is responsible for weld lab safety and observation of various welding courses, assists in supervising weld students while in the welding lab. Additionally, collaborates with other faculty members of the manufacturing program and provides instructional assistance for a diverse student population; performs instructional duties and responsibilities in accordance with the philosophy, mission, policies and procedures of the college. This role may require additional training on equipment relevant to other manufacturing programs including fabrication and production equipment. Flexibility of scheduling is expected; hours could be during the day or evening.   • Assists assigned welding faculty in the weld lab to deliver training.
  • Maintains equipment and weld supply inventory.
  • Assists in the weld lab and preparation of course weld materials related to the labs.
  • Assure students are using proper materials, Weld Procedures Sheets (WPS) and correct personal protective equipment.
  • Assists in correct equipment settings, appropriate and safe use of welding tools and equipment prior, during and after lab exercises.
  • Assist in implementing changes and improvements as necessary to maintain a successful welding technology program; reviews and updates course outlines, and course procedure sheets for assigned courses.
  • Participates in welding technology course scheduling, department, and college meetings.
  • Assists in recruiting students and supporters to the program, and other special events related to the welding program
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Conducts all work in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed.

  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
  • Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends.
  • Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.

  • Broad knowledge of welding techniques, theory and equipment

  • Ability to accomplish assigned duties efficiently, effectively and competently; desire to strive for improvement and excellence in work performed
  • Understanding of the comprehensive role of the college and the ability to cooperate


Education, Training and Experience:
  • Completion of recognized welding training certificate program, apprenticeship or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the welding field. Two years of experience may be substituted for demonstrated advanced degree in manufacturing-related field.
  • Prior supervision or assistance to others in a welding environment a plus.
