We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in behavioral health, mental health assessments, and pharmacological management, with a strong background in diverse clinical settings including inpatient, outpatient, and telehealth environments. This role offers an opportunity to provide comprehensive psychiatric care across a broad patient population, including children, geriatrics, and individuals with complex medical conditions. The PMHNP will utilize advanced EMR/EHR systems such as Epic and eClinicalWorks to ensure accurate documentation and seamless patient care coordination. Experience with psychopharmacology, trauma centers, hospice & palliative medicine, and working with people with disabilities or developmental disabilities is highly valued.
Responsibilities
Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, including mental status examinations and diagnostic assessments using ICD-10/ICD-9 coding standards.
Develop individualized treatment plans incorporating medication management, psychotherapy, and behavioral interventions.
Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications, including botulinum toxin treatments and dermal fillers when appropriate.
Manage acute pain and chronic psychiatric conditions utilizing evidence-based practices such as acute pain management protocols.
Provide telehealth consultations utilizing platforms like Athenahealth or Cerner systems to expand access to mental health services.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across inpatient units (Level I & II trauma centers, PICU, NICU) and outpatient clinics to coordinate comprehensive care.
Educate patients and families on mental health conditions, medication adherence, lifestyle modifications, and health coaching strategies.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain meticulous medical documentation within EMR/EHR systems.
Participate in discharge planning, case management, utilization review, and post-acute care planning for diverse patient populations including those in assisted living, nursing homes, or hospice settings.
Engage in clinical research opportunities related to behavioral health or psychopharmacology to advance practice standards.
Qualifications
Valid Nurse Practitioner license with certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
Proven experience in behavioral health settings such as hospitals (including ICU/ER), outpatient clinics, or assisted living facilities.
Demonstrated expertise in psychopharmacology, including familiarity with CPT coding for billing purposes.
Experience working with children (pediatrics), geriatrics (memory care/dementia), or individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks; telehealth experience is a plus.
Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, diagnostic evaluation techniques (including laboratory experience), and medication administration protocols.
Ability to perform physical examinations and procedures such as venipuncture, IV infusion/insertion, catheterization, sterile processing techniques, tube feeding management, and airway management when necessary.
Familiarity with infection control practices and aseptic techniques across various clinical environments including hospital medicine and outpatient clinics.
Excellent communication skills for effective patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration.
