Responsibilities
Conduct thorough psychiatric assessments, including patient history, mental status examinations, and physiological evaluations to inform diagnosis and treatment plans.
Develop individualized care strategies incorporating psychopharmacology, therapy modalities, and behavioral interventions tailored to each patient's needs.
Prescribe medications responsibly, including antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, and other psychotropic agents, ensuring adherence to best practices and legal guidelines.
Administer or oversee specialized treatments such as Botulinum toxin injections for certain conditions or esthetic laser treatments when applicable within scope of practice.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams--including primary care providers, social workers, therapists, and specialists--to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation of patient encounters, treatment plans, and progress notes in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Participate in clinical research initiatives or quality improvement projects aimed at advancing psychiatric practices and patient outcomes.
Provide telehealth consultations to expand access to mental health services across different settings while maintaining high standards of care.
Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, medication management, lifestyle modifications, and community resources to foster engagement and recovery.
Maintain current knowledge of ICD-10 coding standards for accurate billing and documentation; stay updated on emerging trends in behavioral health and psychopharmacology.
Qualifications
Valid certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with current state licensure.
Demonstrated experience administering injections such as IM or IV medications; familiarity with IV infusion techniques preferred.
Strong clinical skills in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, medication management, and crisis intervention across diverse populations including children, geriatrics, and individuals with developmental disabilities.
Experience working within various healthcare environments such as hospitals (Level I/II trauma centers), outpatient clinics, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or inpatient units.
Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Athenahealth; experience with telehealth platforms is highly desirable.
Knowledge of CPT coding for billing purposes; familiarity with ICD-9/ICD-10 coding standards essential for accurate documentation.
Skills in managing acute pain or behavioral health crises; experience with trauma-informed care is advantageous.
Ability to perform physical examinations when necessary; competence in suturing or sterile processing is a plus but not required.
Strong understanding of pharmacology principles related to psychotropic medications; experience with psychopharmacology is preferred.
Excellent communication skills for patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration; sensitivity when working with vulnerable populations such as those in hospice & palliative medicine or memory care settings.
