CLASSIFICATION: EXEMPT
STATUS: FULL-TIME

SALARY RANGE:

$90,000.00-$118,000.00

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Manage two propulsion test stands for engine checkouts and assessing engine performance. Support engine production via manufacturing instructions and other documentation for converting engines for use in a UAV, in close coordination with the Production department. Analyze data and write reports from flight and ground tests of the baseline system and manage any proposed modifications to the propulsion system as the propulsion SME.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the engine and propulsion drivetrain of a long-endurance, high-efficiency UAV.
  • Manage two propulsion test stands used for performance checkouts of all new engine builds and testing the whole propulsion drivetrain. Responsible for keeping these in working order and for managing requests of their use.
  • Key POC to analyze propulsion data from flight, ground testing, and any tests of prototype changes to the baseline.
  • Responsible for both writing and revising the manufacturing instructions for the engine fabrication process.
  • Train the technicians on the manufacturing instructions, and review changes as the document owner / editor.
  • Create and manage the engine system s bill of materials and stay in coordination with Material Control.
  • Primary SME diagnose behaviors and investigate anomalies and advise on design improvements.
  • Propose changes to the propulsion system within general company strategies.
  • Manage any prototyping of engine upgrades in coordination with other departments and document the results.
  • Performs other duties as necessary and/or required.
PREFERRED SKILLS
  • Perform a variety of technical functions with the for motors and equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Write technical reports associated with propulsion system testing.
  • Understand engine and related component behaviors in all phases of operation.
  • Understand the use of special propulsion equipment to test engines, such as the Dynomite dyno system.
  • Drive adoption of technology and process changes by developing training plans & materials along with providing training to internal technical and with end-users.
  • Translate conceptual customer requirements into functional requirements in a concise manner that is comprehensible to the internal and external project team members and company management.
  • Performs other duties as necessary and/or required.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Security clearance or ability to obtain a clearance.
  • BS degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a related scientific discipline, plus 3 years of experience; or at least 10 years of recent and relevant technical experience in an engineering position, to include a comprehensive knowledge of specific system(s), is required.
  • At least four (4) years of recent and relevant experience in this role.
  • Thorough understanding of aircraft parts, systems, and mechanics.
  • Thorough understanding of tools and testing methods used to ensure proper functioning of an aircraft and its parts, systems, and mechanics.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to perform physical requirements of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation, including, but not limited to, perceiving differences in wire cable colors, moving and/or lifting items such as ladders, tools, air tanks, test equipment and other objects weighing up to 100 pounds, working aloft; climbing ladders and poles.
  • Must be able to obtain a DOT physical and haul trailers to and from offsite locations.
