Job Mission
The Project Engineer executes engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring customer satisfaction and adherence to Alum-a-Lift quality standards. In collaboration with the Engineering Manager and Engineering Team Leads, Project Engineers help drive project success, and deliver high-quality, innovative, timely solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering
Execute detailed design of custom ergonomic lifting equipment, ensuring designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet customer requirements.
Create detailed CAD models and drawings, incorporating mechanical, electrical, and ergonomic considerations.
Collaborate with customers to understand their needs and provide tailored solutions.
Project Management
Manage all phases of small capital projects from design through completion.
Act as the primary point of contact for customers, providing regular updates and addressing any project changes or issues.
Coordinate with external vendors and internal production departments to ensure on-time delivery and successful project execution.
Manufacturing & Quality Support
Provide support during machining, fabrication, and assembly, troubleshooting design or production issues as needed.
Oversee testing and validation to ensure equipment meets performance, safety, and quality standards.
Conduct final inspections, ensure compliance with internal and external requirements, and document results.
Applications Support
Evaluate new customer applications and generate concept ideas and preliminary designs to address customer needs and demonstrate potential solutions.
Develop rough cost estimates and preliminary timelines to assist with customer qualification.
Participate in the preparation of formal proposals, including concept drawings, pricing, and lead times.
Key Interfaces
This position reports to the Alum-a-Lift Engineering Manager and is a member of Alum-a-Lift's engineering group.
Project Engineer Team Leads provide additional support and guidance for Project Engineers, including training and design collaboration.
Requirements
BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Experience using SolidWorks (or similar) for 3D modelling and drawings
Experience using AutoCAD, DraftSight, or similar 2D CAD software
Experience executing engineering projects
Technical expertise in relevant engineering disciplines
Good verbal and written communication skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Skills & Experience
?1 year of experience working in a manufacturing environment
1-3 years of experience using SolidWorks in a professional environment
1-3 years of experience using AutoCAD/DraftSight in a professional environment
Capital project management experience
Demonstrated customer service skills
Hands-on mechanical experience (e.g., automotive repair, machine assembly, etc.)
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Walking or standing for long periods of time 4-6 hours.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
Travel
<5% - Occasional travel to customer sites, tradeshows, etc.
