Candidate Specification

We invite applications from candidates with the following experience:

  • A Civil Engineering degree plus four (4) years of engineering experience in the management of major road or bridge structures construction projects, or for non-degreed personnel, 10 years of responsible and related CEI experience, with preferred experience in the construction of major road or bridge structures for the NCDOT.
  • NC Driver\'s License
  • NC PE or EI preferred, but not required
  • NCDOT Advanced Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification, or within 3 months of employment
  • Erosion Control II Certification, or within 3 months of employment
  • NCDOT Materials Training / Certifications


We are seeking a Construction Project Engineer for highway and bridge inspection projects. This position will be in our Western North Carolina Region (Asheville, Charlotte, Raleigh, Fayetteville).

Our South-Central team supports some of the most ambitious transportation, water, and infrastructure projects in North America, including:
  • Construction oversight of the Pensacola Bay Bridge, FL.
  • Reconnecting Texas\' Cedar Bayou with the sea after 35 years, restoring life to a once rich marsh and estuarine ecosystem.
  • Providing program management services for the design and construction of the Airbus Final Assembly Line.
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
  • General management and oversight of multiple transportation construction projects
  • Directs and assigns specific tasks to inspectors and assists in all phases of the construction project
  • Establish and maintain a safety program for all staff, and promotes safety standards of personnel and equipment
  • Prepare construction inspection summaries of daily activities and weekly reports
  • Review construction contract, drawings, specifications, and installation for constructability
  • Monitors sampling and testing of materials used on projects and certifies proper requirements are met and documented
  • Meets with utility representatives related to the coordination of necessary relocation due to the construction work and compliance with permits and/or utility relocation schedules
  • Responsible for the progress and monthly estimates throughout the project duration
  • Competency in preparing a final estimate and material certification package by NCDOT policies and procedures.
  • Monitors Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) compliance, on-the-job training, and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) to assure contract requirements are met by contractors.
  • Review of project schedule and progress on the projects he or she manages
  • Assists the Sr. Project Engineer / Resident Engineer by providing input on construction operations, RFIs, MRRs, submittals, change orders, supplemental agreements, and budget
  • maintain relationships with clients, business owners, and the motoring public in specified markets
  • Receives general instructions regarding assignments and is expected to exercise initiative and independent judgment in the solution of work problems.
