Job Description

Under general supervision of the Supervising Program Technician III, the Program Technician (PT) III in the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Response Unit of the Applicant Services Program is responsible for the analysis and processing of FBI applicant returns that result in an out-of-state criminal history record. The PT III must have a thorough knowledge of the various California statutes and court orders which govern the dissemination of criminal history record information for applicant purposes and be able to make decisions regarding dissemination using these guidelines. The PT III must be able to recognize terminology and the legislative intent as it relates to other states laws. The PT III is responsible for analyzing arrest disposition data to determine whether it conforms to California statute and court orders and adding the disposition information to the record and disseminating it to authorized client agencies. The PT III routinely contacts law enforcement agencies by telephone for clarification of information and searches various databases via the Internet to obtain disposition information. This position works with sensitive/confidential information and materials and is expected to maintain the privacy and confidentiality of sensitive information at all times.

Working Conditions


This position is designated for telework under Government Code section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California and may require reporting to headquarters or field offices and facilities to fulfill operational needs. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the Department of Justice policies.

This position is eligible for telework, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.
