The Position
Program Officers administer a program or major component of a program by planning, coordinating and managing services and activities in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements and established program performance standards and objectives.
Incumbents recommend and implement changes to work plans, program performance standards and objectives for providing services, and eligibility requirements as permitted by program regulations and guidelines; and may train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate staff and/or a staff consisting of several students, volunteers and/or contract staff.
The Program Officer I will be directly under the supervisor of the Program Officer II?s processing discharge releases from the monthly discharge list; review for any barriers to release and resolve; enter release authorization into NCIS; process parole release requests from Parole and Probation; notify pre-release requests from Parole and Probation; provide Parole and Probation parole expiration dates; process court ordered releases; manage and supervise the NCIC operation; perform criminal history background checks; provide quality and quantity of information and service to co-workers and external customers; compose reports and business correspondence on matters related to program areas; answer telephone and answer general questions; maintain and project an approachable, open-minded attitude and respect confidentiality to ensure open, two-way communication. Must have the ability to prioritize tasks, estimate time frames, meet deadlines, plan and use available resources and coordinate work assignments with others. Working schedule is Monday- Friday 8:00 am through 5:00 pm. Weekends and Holidays off.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, or other discipline related to the program assignment; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of para-professional program support experience equivalent to an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada State service which required the application of State and/or federal laws, policy and procedures; reviewing documents prepared by others for program compliance determinations; or preparing reports which summarize financial and statistical information; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
A State of Nevada/FBI fingerprint based background check is required as a condition of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
