The San Jos\xc3\xa9 Police Department is dedicated to providing public safety through community partnerships and 21st Century Policing practices, ensuring equity for all. The Department is committed to treating all of San Jose\'s diverse community members with dignity, fairness, and respect, while protecting their rights and providing equal protection under the law.Under the direct supervision of the unit commander of the Media Relations Unit, Office of the Chief, the Creative Director will be responsible for leading our in-house media production including producing live shows and events. This role demands a dynamic blend of creativity, technical expertise, and strategic thinking. SJPD has led the industry with high quality award-winning media. You will oversee the production of all departmental media, encompassing heavy video production, photography, design and layout of printed materials, advertising, and social media content. You will support public outreach, internal communication, department training material, multiple social media platforms, and video analysis. Most projects will be conceived, planned, filmed, edited, produced, and executed alone or with minimal assistance. This role requires both graphic design and video production abilities. This role requires being self-motivated and the ability to quickly turn around top of class content in a fast-moving high-pressure environment.
The position has a regular day shift schedule, Monday - Friday, however, the ability to work a flexible schedule that may include nights and is required for weekend events or late evening filming. etc.

Salary range for this classification is:

$123,701-76 - $160,807.92 annually

This salary range(s) includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates\' qualifications and experience.

Key duties may include but are not limited to:

Lead, manage, and create various forms of media for SJPD.

Serve as the principal content creator for the department working within the constraints of a government organization able to triage multiple projects, due dates, and degrees of urgency.

Direct the overall creative direction and promotion of SJPD efforts to the community.

Collaborate with various internal departments and stakeholders to conceptualize and execute effective media strategies for internal and external communications.

Supervision of contract workers.

Manage a budget, make strategic decisions on technology purchases and creative projects.

Foster relationships with other government agencies and external organizations to align department interests and maintain positive partnerships.

Stay abreast of the latest technology and workflow techniques to enhance service delivery, efficiency of projects and team collaboration.

Education and Experience

Bachelor\'s degree in a closely related field AND five (5) years of directly-related experience, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.

Background Investigation: Ability to successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation is a condition of employment.

Desirable Qualification: Bachelor\'s degree in Communications, Radio/Television or Film.

Job Expertise - Demonstrates knowledge of and experience with applicable professional/technical principles and practices, Citywide and departmental procedures/policies and federal and state rules and regulations. Extensive experience in media production, including filming, directing, producing, and editing. Highly proficient in creative software platforms including Adobe Creative Suite or DaVinci Resolve.

Selection Process:

The selection process will consist of an evaluation of the applicant\'s training and experience based on the application and responses to all the job specific questions. You must answer all questions to be considered or your application may be deemed incomplete and withheld from further consideration. Only those candidates whose backgrounds best match the position will be invited to proceed in the selection process. Additional phases of the selection process will consist of one or more interviews, one of which may include a practical/writing exercise.
