POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Program Instructor plans and teaches skills and activities for youth/families that are developmentally appropriate and enriching. Develops positive relationships including providing prompt and courteous service to members, participants and guests.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Implements culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum in accordance with the youth development goals of the YMCA.
  • Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety and to provide for a positive experience for each child.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
  • Professionally engages with parents/guardians to provide pertinent information about their child\'s experience and to promote upcoming programs.
  • Ensures that equipment is clean and safe, set up and stored properly. Reports equipment problems to supervisor.
  • Attends staff meetings and training programs as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

\xc2\xb7 High School education or equivalent

\xc2\xb7 Ability to plan and initiate culturally relevant and age appropriate games and activities

\xc2\xb7 Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations

\xc2\xb7 Must demonstrate good communication skills.

\xc2\xb7 Program lesson planning and instructional skills preferred
