The is accepting applications for a Program Coordinator to assist with developing, planning, coordinating, and implementing classes, activities, programs, and events at the , a busy recreational facility that serves residents of Gaithersburg and the surrounding area by offering a variety of classes, trips, special events, and activities for those 55 years of age and better.

The successful candidate will coordinate and support existing programming for facility events and activities, such as the Active Aging Expo and multicultural celebrations, and develop new programming, including evening programming to attract the still working senior. You will help the Benjamin Gaither Center provide engaging, fun, and well-attended programs, classes, trips, lectures, special events, parties, and other activities that are unique, high quality, and address the needs of our diverse community.

You must be positive, motivated, and highly customer focused; an effective communicator; have solid computer skills; be able to take on a variety of responsibilities and juggle multiple tasks; and work effectively independently and as part of the team. The ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish is desirable. The Center is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to provide support for programs, activities, trips, or events, and to meet other operational needs.

Starting salary for this position is negotiable within the target hiring range ($53,000 - $60,000) and will be offered at a level consistent with the relevant experience and qualifications of the candidate. Job Functions

What you will do with us:

  • Coordinate and support existing programming and develop new programming for the Center.
  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and facilitate programs, trips, events and other activities.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with various organizations that would facilitate programming that fits with the vision and mission of bringing enrichment opportunities to the Center.
  • Schedule facility use and rentals.
  • Compile attendance and program participation statistics.
  • Develop marketing plans for programs including press releases, fliers, postcards, posters, and social media posts.
  • Support other programming initiatives and events at the Center by attending and assisting with programs when needed.
  • Train, schedule, and lead part-time staff and volunteers for programs, activities, and events.
  • Perform light bookkeeping including cash/petty cash handling, payment to vendors, coding and processing invoices, processing timekeeping records, and creating and/or maintaining detailed records, logs, reports, and documentation.
  • Recommend and manage/monitor program budgets and expenditures.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests for information.
  • Research and stay up-to-date on trends in recreation, cultural, and community programming for older adults.
  • Provide outstanding service, pursue continuous improvement, and exceed expectations.

Qualifications

What you will need to be considered:
  • At least two years of experience in program, activity, and/or event planning, development, and delivery.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational, time management, outreach, communication (verbal and written), and customer service skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • An understanding of the needs of an ethnically and economically diverse community.
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office applications including Excel and database experience).
  • AA degree or higher, or two years of relevant course work.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) desirable.
  • Valid driver\'s license.
  • The physical ability to occasionally lift/carry materials or objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification (may be obtained through the City upon hire).
  • Or any acceptable equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position, which means an individual in this position is eligible for overtime compensation under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the City\'s personnel regulations. The successful candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation.
