Job Description




The essential function of this position within the Problem-Solving Courts is to provide program coordination and case management services and supervision of justice-involved Problem-Solving Court participants. This position works under the supervision of the Director of Problem-Solving Courts.

Examples of Work

  • Supervises participants of the Problem-Solving Court.
  • Reviews cases at point of entry into the Problem-Solving Court and conducts initial assessment of participant case management needs by utilizing pre-approved instruments to facilitate a multidimensional, comprehensive assessment of each unique program participant.
  • Conducts new participant intake and orientation.
  • Refers clients for housing, food, transportation, and other basic needs identified through the assessment process.
  • Reviews and compiles information and provides status reports to the judge through periodic reports.
  • Engages in direct contact with participants on a regular basis and/or prior to each scheduled court appearance.
  • Assists participants in obtaining necessary resources to achieve case management goals.
  • Works with participants to identify and eliminate barriers from attending/completing treatment activities (e.g.: issues of food, housing, transportation, and childcare).
  • Continuously monitors and evaluates each participant\'s progression, developing corrective action plans as needed.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of services, service objectives, and outcomes.
  • Maintains participant related data systems, including case notes.
  • Prepares case management related reports detailing information for service attendance and participation, outcomes, achievements, compliance, and non-compliance.
  • Facilitates monthly/quarterly stakeholder meetings with various community agencies.
  • Collects and maintains participant level data related to local funding or federal grant requirements.
  • Completes local and federal level data collection activities and reports.
  • Actively participates in participant/program-related court sessions/hearings, case plan/case transfer conferences, team meetings, and trainings.
  • Presents participant information in open court sessions to judges and team members.
  • Performs observed specimen collections for random drug and alcohol testing following strict collection procedures for all program participants and individuals referred by the general courts.
  • Assists in the preparation of Problem-Solving Court quarterly and annual performance reports for State and Federal agencies.
  • Serves as liaison for the Problem-Solving Courts with the judiciary, constitutional officers, other criminal justice agencies, treatment providers, and various community agencies.
  • Advocates for sanctions and/or incentives for program participants to the judge in open court.
  • Develops and maintains working relationships with Problem-Solving Court Program team members and their agency leaders.
  • Assists public in person, by telephone, and via correspondence, providing case status information and referrals to appropriate community agencies.
  • Attends technical or professional workshops or seminars to improve professional skills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Open Requirements/Supplemental Information
  • 4-year degree in social sciences or comparable combination of education/work related experience required.
  • Experience in social service setting with working knowledge of case management systems and planning techniques.
  • Knowledge of substance use and mental health disorders, drugs of abuse, and the addiction/recovery processes along with related resources.
  • Knowledge of the child-welfare system/case management.
