Position Summary



The UNM Prevention and Populations Sciences (PPS) division is seeking a recent college graduate (bachelor's degree) interested in receiving real-world experience conducting community-engaged prevention research, program evaluation, and public health surveillance. The Professional Intern position is designed to provide training and experience for a recent college graduate to prepare them for a professional position in a field related to health promotion and the prevention of disease and injury. The position will be part of a motivated multi-disciplinary team conducting research studies and evaluation to improve the health and wellbeing of those living in New Mexico. The position will assist the team in all aspects of the projects which focus on evaluating community-based programs to improve health equity, and monitoring and preventing adolescent health risk behaviors. Duties include assisting with study recruitment and qualitative and quantitative data collection, management, analysis, and reporting. The position will also conduct literature reviews and will draft presentations and other dissemination products on various topics. Work will be completed under the supervision of PPS faculty and staff. This position is intended to provide the intern with the skills and knowledge needed to perform the duties of a Research Scientist 1 or HS/Associate Scientist 1 position at the PPS in the future.


Duties and responsibilities for this position may include:



Recruits school administrators and teachers to participate in CDC School Health Profiles survey. Assists with the collection and management of survey data using REDCap and other programs as applicable. Assists with collection and management of qualitative data from interviews or focus groups using Dedoose, NVivo, or other programs as applicable. Contributes to the analyses of qualitative and quantitative data related to the funded projects under the supervision of faculty and senior professional staff. Conducts literature reviews to support the development of reports, presentations and manuscripts. Prepares presentations, infographics, and other data visualization products to communicate research and evaluation findings under supervision of faculty and senior professional staff. Receives guidance, mentoring and training from professional personnel in the conduct of community-engaged prevention research and evaluation. Provides other support for data collection and analysis. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment


Must present transcripts prior to a formal offer being extended. Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement. This is a fixed-term position, typically up to 24 months.



Minimum Qualifications



Must have obtained a Bachelor's or higher level degree no more than 24 months prior to the date of hire OR if the Bachelor's (or higher level) degree was obtained more than 24 months prior to the date of hire, the individual must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's (or higher level) degree program; no previous work experience required.




Preferred Qualifications


Previous experience engaging with communities for research or evaluation. Experience conducting descriptive data analysis. Experience with data collection and data entry using applicable systems such as REDCap, Qualtrics, NVivo, Dedoose, etc. Experience conducting structured literature reviews. Experience producing reports and presentations for various audiences.
