Production To Machine Operator Cnc/laser Training Path

Norwich, NY, US, United States

Job Description

About the Role

At Bloom Owl, we create personalized wooden products that become treasured keepsakes for families. We're looking for a

reliable, detail-oriented team member

to join our small production team in a hands-on role focused on

sanding and assembly

, with

machine operation

training for those who earn it

This is the perfect job if you're looking for a

career opportunity with on-the-job training

-- the kind of role where hard work truly pays off. This is the job for someone who wants to

work their way up

.

Here's the reality: You'll spend the first few months doing repetitive, hands-on work--primarily sanding wooden parts and assembling products. It's physically demanding and requires focus, precision, and consistency.

But

for the right person- someone who demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, strong work ethic, reliability, and mechanical aptitude- there's real opportunity to

learn machine operation

(CNC routers, laser cutters, UV printers) and transition into a higher-paying operator role over time.

Machine training isn't guaranteed. It's earned.

Show us you can work hard and have the aptitude, and we'll invest in training you.

What You'll Do

Sand wooden parts

using power sanders and by hand to prep for finishing (this will be 100% of your job initially, particularly through our busy Christmas season*)

Assemble products

like puzzles, step stools, banks, and other custom items with precision and consistency

Inspect parts for quality

, catching imperfections before products move to finishing or shipping

Maintain a clean, organized workspace

to keep production flowing smoothly

Assist operators

with material setup, machine prep, and basic troubleshooting as you gain experience

Learn machine operation

(CNC routers, laser cutters, and UV printers) through hands-on training once you've proven reliability and skill. Expect at least 60-90 days of production work before machine training begins--and only if you've earned it.

Take initiative

to improve processes, work efficiently, and earn new responsibilities over time

What You Bring

Required:

Strong attention to detail and pride in quality work Physically able to stand, move materials, and lift 50+ lbs throughout the day Comfortable with repetitive tasks while maintaining focus Reliable, coachable, and eager to learn new skills Able to work independently once trained Great attitude and team-player mentality

You're a great fit if you have any of these:

Some experience with CNC, laser, or printer operation (even limited) Woodworking or manufacturing background Mechanically minded and comfortable with tools Tech-savvy and quick to pick up new software Track record of growth and advancement in previous roles

Preferred but not required:

Forklift experience

Why You'll Love It Here

Clear growth path:

Start with sanding, grow into machine operation, and increase your pay as your skills develop

Work independently

-- headphones on, favorite music playing, getting things done. Love to talk? This probably isn't your place*. We're friendly, happy, and energetic- but we're not chatty! We wave when we zip by, give a head nod, laugh at something funny- but we don't really talk much. And we all prefer it that way.
Our

shop dog

, Levo, stops by for occasional "quality control inspections" (but if you throw the ball, he'll forget what he came for) Small,

family business

where showing initiative actually gets you somewhere Fast-paced environment where days fly by Your work becomes part of families' treasured memories
Compensation & Schedule

$19-23/hour based on experience and skills Pay increases as you prove reliability and take on machine operation (top performers can reach $25-30/hour as experienced operators) Monday-Friday, typically 6:00 AM-2:30 PM or 7:00 AM-3:30 PM Some seasonal overtime (a few Saturdays during August and the Christmas rush)

The Bottom Line

This isn't a full machine operator role (yet), and it's not just sanding either. It's a

training position for someone who wants to grow.

If you're willing to put in the time sanding and assembling while learning the machines, we'll invest in training you -- and your pay will grow right along with your skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
