Kula Bio is a leader in sustainable nitrogen solutions, helping farmers improve crop yield and reduce environmental impact. As Product Development Scientist, you will help develop and execute an innovative research program in microbiology/microbial ecology and lead research on mode of action for pipeline strains to support product launches.

On a regular day, you will design and execute experiments to evaluate microbial modes of action using microbiological and/or biochemical assays, research, test, and implement analytical tools for evaluation, solve technical and non-technical problems, and manage complex projects. Additionally, you will be a people leader, supervising day-to-day onsite activities, assigning tasks and experiments, and supporting the training of junior staff.

To thrive in this role, you are an independent decision maker, with the ability to apply creative systems-thinking to problem-solve and improve complex projects. You are flexible, and able to plan and execute work while managing a small and growing team. You have knowledge of microbiology and microbial ecology with experience driving the application of scientific findings to business operations and product launches. You are eager to work in a hyper-growth start-up environment and exude passion and excitement for controlled systems and experimental design. Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Microbiology, Bacteriology, Microbial Ecology or related fields with at least 1 year of industry experience beyond Ph.D.
  • Expert in design and implementation of microbiological studies including a strong background in microbiological, molecular, and biochemical techniques.
  • Demonstrable experience with analysis, presentation, and interpretation of data using statistical analysis \xe2\x80\x93 experience with R stats software is ideal.
  • Proficiency in project management and record keeping \xe2\x80\x93 experience with electronic lab notebooks like SciNote is ideal.
