In conjunction with the Lead, the Processing Technician Workflow Coordinator ensures that workflow is adequate for the shift. Distributes resources to the appropriate areas as needed to ensure all processes are staffed as completely as possible. When required, helps resolve problem issues. Also required to train new QRS's, perform competencies, and assist in QA scanning. Also needs to be flexible with schedule. Position will have the ability to work remote 1 day a week, unless training is scheduled.

Essential Functions
:
Attends Specimen Processing team and staff meetings.
In conjunction with the Lead, directs the daily work flow and workstation/team assignments.
Open/close and manifest shipments as needed, and properly document any shipping or other violations.
Add temperature control material (example: dry-ice) to shipping containers as needed.
Ensures inbound shipments are evaluated for special needs requests, late priority, and proper temperature(s).
Inspect all assigned completed shipment boxes, log inspected boxes into the box inspection application, and deliver them to transportation for secondary inspection.
Handles orders/specimens deemed necessary for experienced support staff members. These include (not limited to): log-outs to the University, pH specimens, and process tests designated with a "WFC" specimen type.
In the absence of the Specimen Processing Lead, or as workload requires:
Acts as a contact and resources for Couriers, Client services, Business Development Manager, Exception Handling, technical sections, Referral Testing, and UHCL Support Services
Provides problem resolution for sample handling, split samples, sample retrieval, lost samples, and request for samples
Institutes computer/track downtime procedures if indicated
Enforces all safety guidelines and policies including evacuation procedures
Ensures that workstations, storage and retrieval, and editing are manned appropriately, and that all staff are as productive as possible.
Ensures that Specimen Processing staff is performing processing steps as defined in corporate/departmental policies and procedures.
Communicates any new issue or problem with the Lead and/or Technical Supervisor.
Knows ARUP and UHSC laboratories and able to determine their locations, hours of operations, and general functions (or able to find such information using departmental information on Nucleus).
Ability to make sound judgement decisions or checks with Supervisor or Lead when needed, before making such decisions.
Assists the management team in handling more complex processing needs including specimen searches and processing compromised shipments when needed.
Observes principles of data security and patient confidentiality. Maintains ethical standards in the performance of testing and in interactions with patients, co-workers and other health care professionals.
Adheres to all safety policies and regulations including, but not limited to, proper dress code and using proper protective clothing and other equipment.
Remains informed of all procedures pertaining to specimen processing.
Performs cleaning duties as assigned.
Assists with departmental projects.
Other duties as assigned.
Physical and Other Requirements
:
Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Mobility: The person in this position needs to move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Effective communication skills.
PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company/departmental policies.

Experience
RequiredType 30 WPM
One year of experience in ARUP Specimen Processing department
Must currently hold a position equivalent to a Processing Tech II or higher
Must be able to maintain the department reliability score
