Duties:
Responsible for end-to-end development, optimization and scale-up of Li-ion battery electrode manufacturing; responsible for having extensive interaction with our customer base, sales personnel, R&D, production engineers, manufacturing personnel and service technicians to provide technical solutions for our customers' energy storage needs; be primarily involved with mixing, ball milling, coating, and calendaring processes for Lithium Ion Battery (LiB) electrode for energy storage, and play an important role in supporting business growth for the advanced energy storage market; provide process engineering support during customer coating trials on the Durr Pilot Line; provide on-site support for factory acceptance and site acceptance testing of Durr's coating line equipment; perform engineering calculations in the sizing, testing, and evaluating of process equipment (e.g. mixing and coating equipment, pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, and valves) for fitness of use in advanced energy storage systems; utilize Minitab to perform duties; assist in the design, development, and testing of new coating technologies to expand Durr's advanced energy storage systems portfolio; evaluate and optimize electrode formulations for slurry testing; research slurry rheology to predict performance outcomes and fine-tune process parameters accordingly; perform advanced material characterization using Karl Fischer, SEM, TGA, DSC, viscometry, and FTIR; develop custom software tools using Python to automate data collection, processing, and reporting; use engineering tools for mechanical and process design of prototypes; attend relevant trade shows and customer visits to represent Durr; collect and evaluate field operating data and troubleshoot process issues; provide technical service to customers relating to the use, operation, and basic maintenance of equipment; assist with process evaluations and compliance testing at customer sites; participate in product development and standardization activities; and estimate equipment sizing and costs.
Location: Southfield, MI and various unanticipated locations throughout the US;
Salary: $109,512 per year
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or in a related field of study (will accept equivalent foreign degree);
Experience: Two (2) years in the position above, as a Battery Data Engineer, as a Battery Engineer, or in a related occupation;
Other Requirements: Experience must include two (2) years' use of all the following: mixing, ball milling, coating, calendaring processes, Minitab, slurry rheology/viscometry, Karl Fischer, SEM, TGA, DSC, FTIR, and Python.
Will also accept any suitable combination of education, training, and/or experience.
