Process Controls Engineer

Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opening for a Process Controls Engineer. This role may be located anywhere between New Orleans and Baton Rogue LA and will have responsibility for engineering support for our hydrogen producing facilities located in SE Louisiana area. We offer flexible remote/onsite work accommodations. Travel is within driving distance predominately to our facilities in the East Gulf Coast Louisiana area.

Process Control Engineers work closely with our operating facilities as the authorities in DCS and PLC automation system design and support. They provide guidance on instrumentation and control devices, to keep our plants operating safely and providing product to our customers. Emphasis placed on safety, collaboration, and aptitude toward challenging work. Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship.

This position works on industrial process control systems in support of capital projects, best practices, plant production initiatives and reliability improvement efforts., and will work closely with regional process controls engineers, plant process engineers, area managers, site supervisors and operating staff.

Responsibilities:

Support control system troubleshooting and upset investigations.

Identifies, executes, and supports improvement projects related to the DCS & SIS systems.

Responsible for the long-term planning and support of the control systems under their care with respect to programming, preventive maintenance, and migration.

Implements changes to the control logic, HMI, database, documentation of these changes.

Aligns with local I&E technicians, providing support and be involved with instrument related troubleshooting.

Contribute to the improvement and optimization of existing assets, addressing instrumentation and automation system obsolescence issues.

Meet organizational goals for safety. Drives improvements in plant reliability, cyber security, cost reduction initiatives.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree in Process Technology, Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

3+ years of experience in process automation systems and/or instrumentation engineering.

Associate degree or equivalent military training and a minimum of 10 years of controls systems experience will also be considered.

Desired Skills:

Hands-on knowledge of control systems (DCS/PLC). Skills related to Siemens PCS7, and ABB control systems.

Knowledge of field instrumentation, including valves and transmitters.

Proficiency and experience with concepts related to level, temperature, pressure, and flow measurement.

Fundamental understanding of computer networks.

Knowledge of Cyber Security implementation as relates to Industrial Control Systems and Safety Instrumented Systems as applicable to Mechanical Integrity.

Process knowledge relating to HyCO plant operations.

Be self-motivated and have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Must be capable of working in a team environment with shared responsibilities.

Effective Communicator, be able to present complex problems to a varied audience in a concise and accurate manner across the organization, including customers, vendors, management, and site personnel
