Job Overview

We are a plastic surgery surgicenter in Rockville, MD, looking for experienced RNs to add to our PRN roster. You would be working with experienced, board-certified plastic surgeons who provide cosmetic surgery and reconstructive plastic surgery. The expectations of the role would be to act as circulating nurse for second cases or when our staff RN is unavailable. We offer paid shadow/training days with our staff RN prior to being added to our roster. This per-diem position is perfect for experienced RNs looking for additional work.

Pre-Op: Help set up OR for case; Ensure all equipment is functioning properly; Ensure OR is neat and tidy for case; Turn on vital sign monitors and ensure they are working properly; Turn on medical gases; Prepare necessary fluids and medications for case; Help prepare sterile field and sterile supplies for case; Initiate sharps, sponge, and instrument count prior to case; Document in the operative record; Perform patient assessment prior to surgery including vital signs; Go over pre-op lab work and testing to verify patient is safe for surgery; Go over all surgery consents with patient; Ensure patient understands and consents to all facets of surgery; Ensure all pre-op documentation is complete and accurate; Introduce patient to clinical team; Help prep patient for anesthesia Intra-Op: Help transfer patient to OR table; Place patient on vital sign monitor and record EKG strip; Place grounding pads for cautery machines; Help position patient that is appropriate for surgery; Perform surgical prep with appropriate prep solution; Assist scrub tech with sterile draping; Maintain integrity of sterile field including assisting clinical team, monitoring activity in the OR, and removing contaminated supplies; Identify any possible urgent or emergent situations; Help transfer patient to PACU; Collect and label specimens; Ensure all documentation is complete and accurate Post-Op: Take vital signs and administer any necessary medication; Stay at patient's bedside and tend to patient while they are waking from anesthesia; Go over post op instructions with patient and caretaker; Help dress and ambulate patient; Assist patient to restroom and car to transport home; Help turnover OR and PACU; Turn off all medical gases; Ensure all documentation is complete and accurate

Experience

Active RN license in the state of Maryland A current BLS, Hepatitis B and COVID-19 vaccinations are required A current ACLS is desirable but not required Proven experience in nursing, preferably with a focus on surgical or outpatient care settings Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and best practices for maintaining patient confidentiality Experience with medical documentation and managing electronic medical records (EMR) systems Prior experience working in a plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery environment is a plus but not mandatory; training will be provided for specialized procedures Excellent patient care skills with compassionate communication abilities to support patients through their surgical journey
Pay: $55.00 - $65.00 per hour
