EMPLOYMENT TERM:
2025-2026 school year with anticipated start date of January 12, 2026. (Normal contract: 220 days).
BID PERIOD:
December 17-23, 2025. If necessary, interviews will be arranged after bid period closes (anticipated interviews January 5, 2026.)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimal qualifications will include a Master's degree in an educational field, a valid West Virginia teaching certification, and a valid West Virginia Professional Administrative Certificate endorsed to be a principal in grades PK-AD. Applicants with a Provisional Administrative Certificate may also apply, but additional requirements will apply if they are the successful applicant.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
It shall be the duty of the principal to:+ Comply with and stay current on all established laws, policies, rules and regulations and monitor these policies among staff members.
+ Assume responsibility for the supervision of programs and improvement of instruction within the school.
+ Analyze a variety of educational data to focus on student achievement and closing the achievement gap.
+ Implement and monitor research-based instruction.
+ Monitor courses of study to assure instructional standards are properly implemented and promote curriculum improvements to ensure that agreed-upon programs of study and courses are properly implemented.
+ Work with the staff and WVEIS contact to create a master schedule that supports best practices in teaching and learning.
+ Support and facilitate a positive school culture for staff, students, and the community.
+ Set high expectations and clearly articulate the mission and goals of the school to community, parents, staff, and students.
+ Initiate and maintain ongoing parent and community involvement.
+ Observe and evaluate staff effectively including corrective feedback and strategies for growth when necessary.
+ Participate in developing and providing professional development for staff including professional and service personnel.
+ Serve on the hiring committee for the school and follow all WV Policy 5000 procedures.
+ Assure required reports are compiled, prepared, maintained, and submitted within required timelines.
+ Interpret policies and procedures; represent staff concerns and needs affecting the operation of the school to the appropriate board of education personnel.
+ Promote effective discipline and a positive teaching-learning environment within the school and take appropriate follow-up action as needed.
+ Work with a team of personnel to evaluate, monitor, and implement school wide PBIS.
+ Appropriately communicate with parents, students, and staff regarding student discipline.
+ Work collaboratively with all service providers including outside agencies, (e.g., mental health organizations, social workers, counselors) who provide services to students within the school building.
+ Ensure that the school's extracurricular and co-curricular programs are adequately supervised.
+ Work to secure substitutes as needed and provide appropriate coverage for classrooms.
+ Participate on system-wide committees as assigned by central office administrators.
+ Administrators are on call at all hours of the day. On days when school is in session, his/her time at the school should extend from the arrival of pupils and teachers in the morning until after pupils have departed in the evening. Even when the school is closed, whether it be for overnight, the weekend, or for the summer, each principal is expected to continue to assume general responsibility for his/her school and its contents by frequent inspections, and checking with the custodian in regard to building maintenance requirements
+ Assume responsibility for security and pupil safety within the building.
+ Work collaboratively with other principals, directors, and coordinators.
+ Assist with all special program duties including IEPs, SAT referrals, and 504s.
+ Perform other related duties as assigned by the superintendent and/or assistant superintendent.

SALARY:
Salary based on experience and education level per MCS BOE salary schedule located at https://boe.mars.k12.wv.us/o/mcs/page/salary-schedules plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation.
