Principal Database Developer



We are seeking an accomplished Principal Database Developer to lead our database development team. The successful candidate will be an expert in Microsoft SQL Server technologies, capable of solving extremely complex problems, and influencing the direction of our database architecture and strategy. They will also have extensive experience in building ETLs to facilitate the transfer of data from external systems into SQL Server.


Key Responsibilities:


Apply expert knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (2014, 2019, 2022) to solve extremely complex problems. Lead the design and implementation of database solutions that contribute to the overall direction of the department. Manage the development and maintenance ETLs to facilitate the transfer of data from external systems (via API, Flat Files, etc.) into SQL Server. Troubleshoot and correct database problems, proactively maintaining the health of database systems to ensure data quality and integrity. Create and implement changes to databases based on the requirements of end users. Network with senior internal and external representatives to stay abreast of industry trends and best practices. Oversee and manage the activities of lower-level database developers, providing guidance and mentorship. Influence and drive the adoption of best practices in database development and management. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure database solutions align with business objectives and requirements. Participate in after-hours/on-call database support as needed. Work closely with application development teams to ensure seamless integration of database solutions with web-based applications. Engage in all aspects of SQL Server development and work closely with the Database Administrators on topics including cloud instance specification, machine configuration, backup planning, disaster recovery, performance tuning, index maintenance, query optimization, and security management. Utilize and integrate with technologies such as Apache Kafka for event streaming and the ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) for data analytics and visualization. Lead the creation of custom ETL solutions using stored procedures, functions, views, and tables in T-SQL. Develop solutions to mitigate user error and ensure data integrity. Actively participate in product scrum teams, contributing to the design and evaluation of proposed features. Serve as an expert-level developer, mentoring and guiding the team in developing systems that align with the product group and the chief architect's goals.

Job Qualifications:



Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline. 5-8 years of directly related experience. Significant work experience in database development, with a proven track record of leading complex projects. Expert knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server technologies (2014, 2019, 2022), including data modelling, performance tuning, and query optimization. Extensive experience in building ETLs and facilitating data transfer from external systems into SQL Server. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work on extremely complex problems. Proven leadership skills and the ability to influence and mentor others. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to write custom scripts using shell scripts such as PowerShell. Experience with Python for data manipulation and automation tasks. Experience with AI and prompt engineering is a bonus. Must have experience with data mapping concepts and tools. Familiarity with real estate concepts is a plus. Natural problem solver and critical thinker, always asking "what is the problem we are trying to solve?" Ability to work in a dynamic, challenging production environment. Passionate about working in a supportive environment with like-minded people who take pride in their work.

Annual Pay Range:



93,800 - 120,000 USD
