The Press Brake Operator is responsible for the setup and operation of press brake
equipment to bend and form sheet metal components to customer and company
specifications. This role requires the ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, flat
pattern layouts, and geometric tolerances; perform shop math; and use precision measuring
instruments to verify part conformance. The Operator performs multiple set-ups and
changeovers, monitors machine performance, performs basic maintenance, and completes
all required documentation accurately. All work must meet company standards for safety,
quality, productivity, and housekeeping.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. Press Brake Operation & Set-Up
? Set up and operate press brakes to produce parts in accordance with blueprints, work
orders, and flat pattern layouts.
? Select, install, and align tooling, dies, and back gauges based on material, thickness, and
bend requirements.
? Prepare and run complex bend setups and multi-stage forming operations.
? Perform difficult set-ups and changeovers to close and complex tolerances.
? Monitor machine operations to determine whether adjustments are necessary; stop
machines and notify supervision when problems occur.
? Perform basic maintenance such as cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting machine
components and tooling.
? Ensure proper care, storage, and handling of tooling, fixtures, and gauges.
2. Blueprint, Layout & Quality
? Read and interpret complex blueprints, drawings, work instructions, and geometric
dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
? Demonstrate a thorough understanding of flat pattern layout and how it relates to
formed parts.
? Use standard shop math and basic trigonometry as needed to determine bend
deductions, bend allowances, and part dimensions.
? Conduct regular in-process and final inspections of parts using precision measuring
