The Preschool Behavioral Specialist provides Christ-centered behavioral and emotional support to young children, ages 2-5, in a nurturing and developmentally appropriate learning environment. This role focuses on early intervention, social-emotional growth, and equipping teachers and families with practical strategies to support positive behavior and spiritual development. The specialist partners with classroom teachers, families, and school leadership to foster a consistent, grace-filled culture grounded in biblical truth and emotional safety.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support
Observe, assess, and support children exhibiting behavioral, emotional, or social challenges.
Develop individualized Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) aligned with developmental milestones and Christian principles.
Provide student pull-outs as needed for one-on-one or small-group interventions focused on social skills, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution.
Model and coach positive behavior techniques within classrooms to help children self-regulate, communicate needs, and build healthy peer relationships.
Implement early intervention and trauma-informed strategies that promote calm, empathy, and respect for self and others.
Offer prayer, encouragement, and gentle redirection to students during challenging moments.
Teacher Collaboration
Partner with teachers to implement consistent classroom management and behavior support strategies.
Provide coaching and professional development in social-emotional learning (SEL), trauma-informed care, and restorative practices through a biblical lens.
Conduct classroom observations and offer feedback to strengthen teacher effectiveness and confidence.
Participate in case conferences and child study meetings as needed.
Family Engagement
Communicate with parents regarding student progress, intervention strategies, and ways to reinforce positive behavior at home.
Facilitate parent meetings or workshops that emphasize love, boundaries, and biblical guidance in behavior management.
Maintain confidentiality while fostering a spirit of partnership, empathy, and encouragement with families.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate documentation of behavior plans, interventions, progress notes, and parent communication.
Support school leadership in developing and updating behavior policies and intervention procedures.
Provide input for developmental assessments and make referrals when additional support services are warranted.
Faith Integration
Model Christlike character, patience, and compassion in all interactions.
Integrate biblical values such as kindness, self-control, forgiveness, and love into all behavioral and social-emotional support.
Pray with and for children, families, and staff when appropriate.
Support the mission and vision of City of Refuge and City Kids Preschool through service, collaboration, and spiritual leadership.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field (Master's preferred).
Certification or specialized training in behavior intervention, applied behavior analysis (ABA), trauma-informed practices, or early intervention.
Minimum of 3 years of experience working with preschool-aged children in a behavioral, counseling, or educational support role.
Strong understanding of child development, social-emotional learning, and classroom management.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and administrators.
Deep personal faith in Jesus Christ and commitment to Christian education.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
