Friends School is looking for an engaging and experienced Assistant Preschool Teacher. Successful applicants will be available to work 8:30am - 4:30pm Monday through Friday. Friends School operates on a calendar similar to that of the public schools. Salary ranges for full time positions are between $28,000 - 32,000 for the school year. Working our summer camp program (8:15am - 1:45pm daily during June and July) can add up to $4000 to the salary, if desired.
Preschool Assistant Teacher
The assistant preschool teacher assists the Lead Preschool Teacher in meeting the needs of preschool students, some of whom have identified disabilities, including those with autism, Down Syndrome, and other developmental delays. The assistant preschool teacher assists with general supervision and management of a class of children and reports to the Preschool Head and the administrative team of the school.
Qualifications:
The person selected for this position must:
Be at least 18 years of age
Have experience in the field of education
Have experience in working with children with disabilities
Possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent; Child Development Associate's Credential strongly preferred.
Have a non-remarkable crime check
Commit to ongoing professional development
Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs
Responsibilities:
Treat children with dignity and respect
Demonstrate professionalism with children, staff, and parents
Assist in planning and implementing the general program in partnership with the teachers and the Head of School
Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up lessons or interest centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies, with respect to children with disabilities
Plan and prepare items needed for curricular adaptations such as picture schedules, communication books, first/then boards, etc...
Perform general housekeeping tasks
Attend staff orientation and all staff meetings
Attend all team meetings
Participate in the required 18 hours of professional development per school year
Assist with or attend school sponsored events
Demonstrate caring about children within and beyond the classroom
Develop appropriate, cordial relationships with parents
Collaborate as a team player with teachers and administrators
Respond appropriately to supervision
Help meet the needs of individual children with respect for their interests, disabilities, talents, and individual style of learning
Meet all applicable licensing regs and accreditation standards

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
