Preschool Assistant Teacher in Child Development

Location: Bangor Region YMCA Childcare, Bangor, ME

Schedule: Full-Time (40 hours/week)

Pay: Starting at $17+/hour (based on degree and experience)

The Bangor Region YMCA is hiring a dedicated and enthusiastic Preschool Assistant Teacher to join our growing Childcare team. This full-time position offers the opportunity to nurture, educate, and inspire children ages 1 to 5 in a supportive, mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities

As a Preschool Assistant Teacher, you will:

Support the Lead Teacher in daily classroom operations, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment

Assist in implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities that promote each child's growth

Build strong, trusting relationships with children, families, and staff through consistent, positive communication

Collaborate with colleagues and support staff to maintain high-quality programming

Help maintain accurate and confidential documentation of children's progress and family interactions

Step in as Lead Teacher when needed to ensure continuity of care and learning

Work closely with the Lead Teacher and Classroom Aide to ensure children are safe, happy, and engaged

Qualifications

Currently hold or are working toward an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, or equivalent experience

Coursework or practicum experience focused on preschool-aged children preferred

Eligible for Maine DOE 081 Certification (Early Childhood Education: Birth to Age 5)

Ability to lift to 50 lbs. and meet the physical demands of working with young children

Strong communication, organizational, and basic computer skills
