Job Description

The Solutions Engineer is a service team member that focuses on consulting, educating, and estimating solutions for customers.








Primary:





The Solutions Engineer must be well trained and highly knowledgeable in the Intelice Solutions products and services; and able to communicate the value of the features. They will maintain regular knowledge of the latest feature releases, upgrades, and fixes.





Serves customers by understanding their solutions and identifying their needs, engineering adaptations of products, equipment, and services. They specialize in product and service understanding. They use their technical skills to explain the benefits of our products or services to potential customers and to show how our products or services are better than a competitors' products.





Many of the duties of a solution engineer are similar to those of a sales engineer in that they help educate customers on the value and use cases of our solutions. They must interest the client in buying our products or services, help negotiate price, and assist in completing the sale. To do this, the solution engineer gives technical presentations during which they explain the technical aspects of the product and how it will solve a specific customer problem.

Responsibilities and Duties




Be trained and certified (where and when needed) on each solution. Maintain relationship and communication with each solutions vendor and/or champion. Prepare and deliver technical presentations explaining products or services to customers and prospective customers. Confer with customers, vendors, and engineers to assess equipment needs and to determine system requirements. Collaborate with sales teams to understand customer requirements and provide technical sales support. Prepares cost estimates, consulting with engineers, architects, vendors, and other professional or technical personnel. Defines scope of work, includes assumptions and exclusions. Plan and modify products to meet customer needs. Help in researching and developing new products. Evaluation and assistance with solution rollouts, utilization, and adoption.

A Solutions Engineer typically have an interest in the Building, Thinking and Persuading interest areas of the Holland Code framework. The Building interest area indicates a focus on working with tools and machines; and making or fixing practical things. The Thinking interest area indicates a focus on researching, investigating, and increasing the understanding of ideas. The Persuading interest area indicates a focus on influencing, motivating, and selling to other people. A successful Solutions Manager will combine technical knowledge of the products or services Intelice is selling with strong interpersonal skills.


Interpersonal skills. Strong interpersonal skills are a valuable characteristic for sales engineers, both for building relationships with clients and effectively communicating with other members of the sales team. Problem-solving skills. Solution engineers must be able to listen to the customer's desires and concerns, and then recommend solutions, possibly including customizing a product. Self-confidence. A Solutions Engineer should be confident and persuasive when making solution presentations. Technological skills. A Solutions Engineer must have extensive knowledge of the technologically sophisticated products they sell in order to explain their advantages and answer questions.



Requirements




A bachelor's degree (Engineering or Business Admin preferred) is typically required to become a Solutions Engineer 2+ years' experience in the information technology Previous technical or sales experience in information technology Excellent communication and collaboration skills



Training





Solution and sales training are required before they can work independently as a Solutions Engineer. Training covers at a high level, the products and services Intelice provides. As well as training of general sales techniques, which may involve teaming with a sales mentor who is familiar with Intelice's business practices, customers, procedures, and company culture. After the training period, a solution manager may continue to partner with someone who lacks technical skills yet excels in the art of sales.
