After more than twenty years of practice in both academic and non-academic vascular surgery practice, our provider is dedicated to teaching the next generation of health care providers like physicians (MD), physician assistants (PA) and nurse practitioners (RN).

We understand the rigors, dedication, sacrifice, and focus needed to become a successful clinician. Medical school, Physician Assistant program and Nursing school acceptance have never been more competitive than today. For most school applicants, a high undergraduate GPA and above average MCAT score are not enough to ensure acceptance into professional school. An additional edge is needed. To that end, Paik Vascular & Vein Center has implemented a Premed Medical Assistant (PMA) Program as part of vascular surgical practice.

Job Summary:

Medical Assistant (MA) is expected to greet and escort patients to pre-op, post-op or examination room, verify purpose of visit, take and record vital signs, observe, record and report patient condition. Medical Assistant may operate or assist in operating various mechanical devices, transport patient via wheelchair or stretcher within the surgery center. MA can answer the phones, assemble medical records according to unit standard, order and ensure lab tests are filed accurately. MA can support the objectives and philosophy of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist to prepare patients for Procedures. Understands the requirement for patient safety. Assist with collecting data Assist the RN & Physician during Examinations or Procedures Phone in or enter electronic Prescriptions (according to State regulation) Preparing Operating / Procedure Rooms Follows all Safety Precautions and Infection Control guidelines Attend staff meetings and training sessions Participate in ordering of surgical, clinical and clerical supplies for unit Maintain Hazard Communications sheets (SDS) and keep the list of chemicals up to date. Accurately schedule patient procedures and make necessary preop calls within scope of practice Participating related medical conference provided for PMA program
Qualifications:

Any pre-Medical, pre-Physician Assistant and pre-Registered Nursing students. Any pre-profession school applicants who wish to take a gap year with a full-time job. Previous experience in a healthcare setting is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment. Bilingual in Spanish, Korean and English is a plus. Knowledge of and experience with electronic medical records (EMRs) is a plus.
