REPORTS TO: Building Principal
I. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Aides provide vital support to building staff by performing professional duties as assigned by the building principal. These responsibilities commonly include assisting in the library, supervising lunchrooms, producing clerical materials, maintaining records, and supporting instructional activities. Aides may also be asked to supervise classrooms for short durations in the absence of a certified teacher. In such cases, their role is to reinforce and support students' learning-- not to introduce new instructional material. Specific assignments may encompass one or more of the duties and responsibilities outlined below.
II. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
? Support individual students or small groups by reinforcing concepts and skills previously introduced by the classroom teacher.
? Review and score student assignments, record grades, attendance, and other routine student data.
? Assist in the preparation and assembly of instructional materials and classroom resources.
? Provide clerical support to the building secretary in the completion of daily administrative tasks.
? Communicate with parents or guardians to gather or relay relevant information.
? Serve as a back-up for the building secretary during absences or periods of unavailability.
? Enter and maintain student information in the student management system, as needed.
? Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED AND PREFERRED):
? Must have at least 48 hours of college credits or successful completion of a Kansas State Department of Education approved assessment.
? Previous experience in position or school setting preferred.
Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate or an Associate of Arts (A.A.) in early childhood education or a related field is preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:
? Knowledge of principles and practices of public school education and the ability to apply them to the needs of the district.
? Ability to develop effective working relationships with the students, staff, and community.
? Knowledge and ability to utilize appropriate technology.
? Ability to collaborate with team members to implement the district's strategic plan and engage in solution building.
? Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
? Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and adherence to Board policy.
? Ability to read and interpret documents.
? Ability to effectively write detailed reports and correspondence.
? Ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing, in relation to department duties and responsibilities.
? Ability to speak in front of large and/or small groups.
? Bilingual communication skills preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
? Must have the ability to travel in personal or school district vehicle.
? Must be flexible regarding scheduling, working conditions and location of work.
? May require some physical exertion.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
? Must be able to occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions.
