Smith & Oby, a leading commercial Mechanical and Plumbing contractor based in Walton Hills, OH, is looking for a

Pre-Construction Manager

to join our team. This office-based role plays a key part in the success of our projects--managing pre-construction activities, driving accurate cost estimates, and ensuring smooth project handoffs from concept through execution.

What You'll DoPrepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor work. Develop and manage project schedules, ensuring key milestones and client expectations are met. Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors. Partner with project managers, engineers, and field teams to align pre-construction planning with execution strategies. Lead the preparation and submission of competitive bid proposals. Review projects for constructability and risk during pre-construction and recommend solutions to improve efficiency and minimize risk. Maintain organized records of estimates, schedules, and project correspondence. Stay current on building codes, industry trends, and best practices in mechanical contracting.

What We're Looking ForBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field. 4+ years of experience in the construction industry (mechanical contracting or HVAC preferred). Knowledge of the Cleveland, OH construction market and local regulations is a plus. Strong estimating and budgeting skills with attention to detail. Proficiency with scheduling/project management software (Primavera, Microsoft Project, or similar). Excellent communication skills--written and verbal. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Team-oriented mindset with proven ability to collaborate across stakeholders. General knowledge of construction processes, mechanical systems, and industry standards.
