Job Description

SUMMARY

Sets up and operates power brake to bend, notch, punch, or straighten sheet metal and structural shapes to engineering drawings or sketch specifications by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Able to do all duties of Machine Operator .

Setting up and running NC Brake Presses, such as Amada and Trumph or equivalent.

Selects, positions, and aligns forming dies in brake ram and bed. Uses adjustment setscrews and/or bolts on clamp bars to fasten dies in position. Insures that dies are adjusted correctly to avoid damage to dies.

Uses adjustment knobs to set proper ram pressure and clearance between dies for metal thickness being formed.

Reads engineering drawings to set brake manual and/or NC controlled back gauges in the proper locations and selects forming sequence.

Positions part into the brake dies and against back gauges manually. Uses foot pedal or palm buttons to activate the brake ram to perform the forming operation.

Verifies dimensions of part using dial or electronic calipers, and calls for first article inspection when required before continuing to next part. Makes adjustments when required. Verifies dimensions of part on random samples throughout the production run. Makes adjustments as needed. Parts that do not meet requirements are set aside to be scraped.

Stacks parts on material handling equipment safely and neatly to insure they can be moved to their next location without incident.

Keeps brakes and surrounding area clean and uncluttered and keeps machine adjustment tools in safe organized location. Completes weekly written machine maintenance logs.

Observes all safety procedures and uses all personal safety equipment required. Uses all safety guards supplied for the machines. Does not modify or remove safety equipment and/or guards at anytime during operation of the machine. Immediately discontinues operation of any machine that has any malfunctioning safety equipment and/or guards. Immediately reports any such malfunction of safety equipment and/or guards to the supervisor. Immediately reports any unsafe conditions or activities observed to supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:



High school diploma or general education degree (GED); at least one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess knowledge of operation of hands tools such as wrenches, screw drivers, hammers, and files.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:



Ability to read and comprehend complicated instructions, written correspondence, memos and work instructions in English. Must read and write in English.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:



Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all number types using a calculator. Ability to calculate linear and square footage of raw material. Ability to calculate shear sizes.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, and/or controls, talk and hear. Employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms; climb ladders, balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 lbs. Must be able to move up to 500 lbs using rolling material handling device such as cart or pallet jack.

VISION & HEARING:



While performing the duties of this job close up and distance vision is required. The ability to hear verbal instructions clearly with above normal background noise levels is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, moving material handling equipment and moving machinery parts. Exposure to dust and airborne particulates commonly found in sheet metal fabrication processes. The noise level in the work environment is typically loud. Exposure to temperatures that can normally be made comfortable by adding or removing layers of clothing or the positioning of cooling fans

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
