Powder Coating Operations Lead (assistant Manager Track)

Gulfport, MS, US, United States

Job Description

About the role:

You'll run a small powder coating operation end-to-end: blasting, coating, curing, quality control, daily scheduling, and basic equipment upkeep. Initially, you will manage the shop solo. When our primary manager arrives, you'll transition into their right hand--second-in-command for production and maintenance.

What you'll do:

Run daily powder coating workflow: prep/blast, mask, coat, cure, inspect, and ship. Maintenance: perform routine/mechanical repairs on booth, oven, guns, compressor, and blast equipment. Keep a tight maintenance log and parts list; schedule preventive service. Write clear maintenance/SOP manuals for all key equipment. Track work orders, due dates, rework, and scrap; hold the line on quality. Manage consumables and inventory (media, filters, tips, nozzles, PPE). Enforce safety: PPE, lockout/tagout, respirator and ventilation compliance. Coordinate with management on capacity, lead times, and continuous improvement. Float as needed to our CNC and sheet metal shop in Ocean Springs, MS to support production or maintenance.

Must-have qualifications:

Hands-on experience in sand-blasting, powder coating, or industrial painting. Mechanically inclined; able to troubleshoot and repair shop machinery. Proven habit of documenting: maintenance logs, checklists, and SOPs. Able to read a tape to 1/16", follow work orders, and meet tight tolerances. Computer-literate enough to maintain logs and write manuals.

Nice to have:

Experience with electrostatic powder systems, cure ovens, and media blasting pots/cabinets. Basic compressed-air, vacuum, and burner/element diagnostics. Forklift operation; overhead lifting/rigging basics. Light fabrication/finishing skills (grinding, masking, plug/cap selection).

Physical & work environment:

Frequent standing, lifting up to 50 lbs, repetitive motion. Heat, dust, and noise typical of blasting/coating; respirator use when required.

Schedule:

Full-time, days, Mon-Fri. Overtime may occur with workload.

Pay & growth:

$18-$20/hour to start (based on experience)

How to apply:

Submit your resume and a short note listing the coating/blast equipment you've used and any maintenance you've personally performed. References welcomed.
