This position is for a post-doctoral researcher with a primary focus on science, engineering, or design in coastal basins. The researcher is expected to have advanced training in civil, environmental, or coastal engineering, computational applied mathematics, coastal science, ecology, biology, or other physical sciences centered on coastal systems.
The purpose of this position is to advance the scientific basis and engineering methods supporting informed design in coastal basins. Design objectives include protecting human life, mitigating flood and storm risk, supporting healthy and sustainable coastal ecosystems, and community resilience.
Job Responsibilities
Research and Development - The researcher is expected to lead research tasks on the application of computational models, development of computational models and tools, design and implementation of physical experiments in the laboratory or field, or engineering design. The ability to work on large, interdisciplinary teams is required. The position requires the ability to work productively with both graduate students and faculty members toward their research goals. The researcher is expected to balance duties between conducting and proposing independent research and supporting graduate students and faculty members on the team. (75%)
Proposal Development - Collaborate with faculty and research teams to identify funding opportunities and contribute to the preparation of competitive grant proposals. Assist in the development, writing, and submission of research proposals to various funding sources. (10%)
Mentoring and Outreach - Mentor undergraduate and graduate students by providing guidance in research methodology, data analysis, and scientific writing. Engage in departmental and university outreach activities to promote research initiatives and scientific literacy within the community. (10%)
Other duties as assigned. (5%)
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D in civil, environmental, or coastal engineering, computational applied mathematics, coastal science, ecology, biology or science centered on coastal systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D in civil, environmental, or coastal engineering, computational applied mathematics, coastal science, ecology, biology or science centered on coastal systems PLUS at least 3 years experience.
