Position Qualification

Position Summary

A post-doctoral fellow position is available in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The research focuses mainly on the regulatory role of the peripheral nervous system in peripheral tissues (such as myocardium and skeletal muscle) in pathophysiological conditions including heart failure and ischemia-reperfusion injury, supported by NIH funding. Applicant must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in Medicine/Physiology or related field. The successful applicant will be expected to master some electrophysiological techniques and animal procedures (such as measurements of skeletal muscle contraction, end-plate potentials, cardiac sympathetic nerve activity, and neurotransmitter release) and molecular biological methods (such as Western blots, real-time RT-PCR, epigenetics, single-cell RNAseq, and flow cytometry). The incumbent will be involved in the design of experimental protocols; collection, analysis and interpretation of data; preparation of oral and written scientific reports, such as presentation of results at local, state, and national meetings; composition of scientific manuscripts for submission to journals and writing grant applications; and interdepartmental seminars, journal clubs and local and national scientific societies. The incumbent will also be expected to incorporate their previous skills and knowledge into the evolution of experimental designs, methodology, data interpretations and pursuit of scientific goals. Previous experience performing in cardiovascular and neurophysiological experiments is preferred. Salary range is commensurate with experience.
