A post-doctoral position in the Department of Plant Biology working in the area of plant and forest health. This position combines research, extension, diagnostic service, and teaching. Responsibilities include supporting forest health outreach programs, conducting research and extension in woody and forest pathology, serving nursery and Christmas tree industries, and contributing to the NJAES Plant Diagnostic Clinic and Nematode Detection Service, with an immediate emphasis on modernizing disease diagnostics through advanced molecular pathogen detection methods. Teaching duties include serving as primary instructor for graduate and undergraduate laboratory and experiential learning courses, as well as contributing lectures to core plant pathology courses that support required and elective curricula in the Undergraduate Program in Plant Science and Graduate Program in Plant Biology.

Minimum Education and Experience
The successful applicant should have a recent PhD degree in a Plant Pathology-related discipline with knowledge in plant biology, horticulture, mycology, and microbiology. Applicants should be fluent in English (both oral and written) and should be able to communicate ideas and results to colleagues. The successful candidate must be capable of working in a team and complete projects without constant supervision. Aside from classical culture-dependent techniques, the position will require experience and expertise in molecular techniques, including but not limited to qPCR or dPCR, primer and probe design, and gene cloning. Experience working outdoors conducting applied experimentation and communicating with stakeholder groups is highly desirable.
