The High Energy Physics Division at Argonne National Laboratory invites applications for a postdoctoral appointment focused on the design and simulation of advanced detectors for future high-energy physics (HEP) and nuclear physics (NP) experiments. The successful candidate will be a key member of a multidisciplinary co-design team integrating materials science, computing, and device engineering to address next-generation HEP and NP detector challenges. The postdoctoral appointee will collaborate closely with leading scientists across multiple divisions at Argonne.
Key ResponsibilitiesElicit and define requirements and performance specifications for future HEP/NP detector systems
Perform detector concept development, system-level design, and optimization leveraging emerging computing architectures and novel device technologies
Develop, validate, and maintain simulation and modeling frameworks for detector performance, characterization, and benchmarking
Analyze simulation results and experimental data to guide intelligent data processing strategies and inform detector and readout device design
Work collaboratively within a cross-disciplinary team and contribute to publications and presentations in high-impact venues
Position RequirementsRecent or soon-to-be-completed PhD (within the last 0-5 years) in field of High Energy Physics or Nuclear Physics, or a closely related discipline
Demonstrated experience with HEP or NP detector design and simulation
Proficiency in scientific software development (e.g., C/C++, Python, or similar languages)
Ability to model Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork
Preferred SkillsHands-on experience with GEANT4-based simulations
Experience with detector characterization and validation
Familiarity with HEP/NP data processing, reconstruction, and analysis workflows
Experience working in collaborative, multidisciplinary research environments
