The New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) invites applications for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher position to conduct fundamental research in the area of reduced order modeling for transport-dominated and shock-laden flows. This is a position with an initial term of one year, renewable contingent upon mutual agreement and availability of funding.
Essential Functions:
The successful candidate will work under Dr. Alberto Padovan's supervision, and will also have the opportunity to be involved in graduate student mentoring and proposal writing. Key responsibilities include:
Developing optimal-transport-based formulations to address the limitations of linear-projection-based reduced-order models.
Demonstrating the performance of these formulations on advection-dominated and shock-laden flows in one and two spatial dimensions.
Preparing and delivering presentations at national and international conferences.
Publishing in academic journals.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
A recently awarded Ph.D. in a relevant field (Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, etc.).
Demonstrated experience in numerical methods for the solution of partial differential equations, and reduced-order modeling of high-dimensional systems.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven record of scholarly publication.
At the university's discretion, the qualifications prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate an equivalent combination of education and experience preparing them for success in this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience/familiarity with the field of optimal transport.
Experience in numerical modeling of fluid flows, especially at supersonic and hypersonic regimes.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the negotiated starting annual salary for this position is $62,232.00 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
