Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world\'s largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Port Medic. Due to anticipated needs, we are currently recruiting for a career oriented individual to fill this role.

Rotation schedule will be 2 week on-site with 2 weeks off-site

Reporting to the Port Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Provide emergency response at the Port Site Operations in the areas of first aid, firefighting, confined space rescue and spill response, and acts in the capacity of the Initial Onsite Incident Commander until relieved by a higher authority
  • Conduct monthly and yearly fire extinguisher inspections, monthly spill response equipment checks, general safety inspections and pre-fire planning on a monthly basis. Assists the Fire Systems Service persons with inspection, maintenance, and testing of fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems
  • Assists with MSHA (annual refresher - Medical sections, new hire, and site specific training), firefighting, spill response, and medical training, as well as maintaining all training and inspection records
  • Assist with Hazwoper, and confined space training, that takes place at the Port operations
  • Assist fall arrest trainers and is responsible for the inspection, maintenance and record keeping of Fall Arrest equipment kept at the port
  • Work with the Fire Chief, and Spill Chief in the development of the Port site, fire department, medical and spill response training manuals, and operating procedures
  • Administer and maintain records for audiograms, collects blood lead and cadmium samples from port employees, and administers all over the counter and narcotic medications through the direction of the mine site Physician Assistant
  • Collect samples for drug and alcohol screens, when requested by the Safety & Health Coordinator
  • Ensure that the Port ambulance, fire engine and fire/ambulance bay is maintained in a standard acceptable to the Fire Chief, and maintains the Port clinic in a standard acceptable to the mine site Physician Assistant
  • Provide administrative and clerical services, ensure adequate office and safety equipment/field supplies are available, as well as conducting MSHA site specific, hazard recognition, and task training
  • During the shipping season, create "Red Folders" and supporting documentation for all associated parties (Teck, FOSS, FeDNav)
  • As applicable during COVID-19, facilitate testing on Monday, Thursdays and Saturdays (when in effect)
  • Initial contact as a representative of Safety & Health at the Port to include assisting contractors that come to site
  • Participate in Monthly Hazard Recognition audits as assigned
  • Deliver Monthly Safety meeting as assigned
  • Facilitate Quanitative respirator fit testing for personnel at Port as needed and maintain records of the testing
  • Conduct CCV audits as assigned both in the field and within the PAC
  • Attend both day and night shift toolbox meetings
  • Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • A High School Diploma (or equivalency)
  • Alaska Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) III
  • Firefighter II or Engineer certified
  • Will be required to obtain a Fire Extinguisher Level II Certification - to inspect fire extinguisher annually
  • A valid Driver\'s License
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work well with others and have a professional demeanor
  • Will be required to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card and security awareness training
