JOB SUMMARY:



Our Police Officers are responsible for protecting public safety, our employees and the assets of Regional Water Authority.



We are currently seeking Connecticut POSTC Certified Officers for evening shifts: The hours change with sunset throughout the year:

1. November 1st 10am-6pm (winter hours),

2. March 1st 12pm-8pm (spring hours),

3. June 1st 2pm-10pm (summer hours),

4. August 15th 12pm-8pm (fall hours), and back to...

5. November 1st 10am-6pm (winter hours).



POSTC Certified Police Officers must meet POSTC Lateral Entry Requirements and have a minimum of two years of experience. Certified Officers must pass written, oral, psychological, polygraph, background investigation, and a medical examination to include drug screening. Must possess and maintain a valid CT Driver's License. The Regional Water Authority offers a competitive salary, benefits package, 401k plan, paid vacation, holidays, personal, sick, and a take home vehicle. Starting with a competitive salary of $77,500 per year payable weekly in accordance with our standard payroll practices and subject to all appropriate deductions and withholdings. We believe in recognizing and rewarding your hard work and dedication. Upon successfully meeting performance expectations within the first year, you will be eligible for a salary increase to $82,000.



Responsibilities:



1. Perform all duties of a police officer.

2. Conduct criminal investigations.

3. Assist other agencies with emergency response on RWA lands.

4. Respond to incidents, calls for service and police response

5. Respond to hazardous materials spills.

6. Operation of emergency equipment, including boats, ATV, firearms, and other emergency response equipment.

7. Available for call-out or consultation, 24/7, as scheduled.

8. Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the direction of immediate supervisor.

9. Other duties as necessary to accomplish the strategic initiatives and mission, vision and values of the organization.



QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational Requirements:



High school diploma or its equivalent. Police certification from Police Officers Standards and Training Council. Minimum of two (2) years' experience as a certified police officer. Ability to work between 7am through 10pm, including weekends and Holidays. Flexibility to work schedule, as assigned and scheduled.

Experience/Skills/Abilities:



Experience investigating with thorough working knowledge of state law, preservation of evidence, and accepted police practices. Maintain Police Officer Standards and Training certification. Maintain various other required certifications, such as Hazmat, collect as needed. Maintain sufficient physical agility to perform law enforcement duties. Ability to work well with other people. Good communications skills, written and oral. Demonstrated ability to use office technology including computer equipment with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Nexgen, or similar types of software. Knowledge of Fish and Game Laws. Knowledge of CALEA or State POSTC-C Accreditation Program a plus. Residence must be within 30 miles of Regional Water Authority headquarters. Supports the RWA's STARS values (Service, Teamwork, Accountability, Respect and Safety), mission, vision, and higher purpose

Physical / Mental Job Requirements:



Must have a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's driver's license with excellent driving record and history. Ability to travel within RWA's service area up to 100% of the time This position may also require sitting for long periods of time, walking, standing, bending, and walking, as well as using fine motor skills, such as finger dexterity for typing. This position could be exposed to loud noises, frequent phone conversations, and requires average to above average visual acuity and hearing. Flexibility to attend late evening and weekend meetings with homeowners, neighborhood events, and other events related to the LSLR program. Subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions that include exposure to extreme cold/hot temperatures.
