Responsibilities





Position Focus Statement Primarily responsible for the management of all property and evidence seized or obtained by the FSU Police Department. Responsible for the processing of crime scenes, collection of evidence, and submission of evidence for laboratory testing. Prepares evidence for court.
  • Management of incoming property and evidence submitted by law enforcement staff to include classification, packing, filing, storage, and submission of property to laboratories.
  • Processing of evidence at crime scenes and at police station to include, but not limited fingerprinting, photographing, diagraming, cast impression construction, seizure of trace evidence, seizure of large evidence, collection of serological evidence and preservation of biological evidence. Includes the collection and preservation of other hazardous evidence to include drugs, firearms, and sharps.
  • Interaction with the public in the proper return of impounded property from arrests, recovered stolen property, found property, and the final disposition of unclaimed property.
  • Management of records pertaining to impounded property and evidence. Utilizes computer records management systems.
  • Assists law enforcement officers and investigators with information concerning the proper processing and collection of evidence at crime scenes. Conducts training and compiles information for department related to the proper handling of evidence. Assists in serving search warrants for subsequent evidence collection.
  • Testifies in court concerning the collection, management, and submission of forensic evidence. Other duties as needed.
  • This position will be required to complete the Bloodborne pathogen training, Evidence handling and processing class (FDLE or recognized law enforcement training facility), and Crime scene photography class.


Qualifications




  • High School diploma and four years of experience.
  • (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to four years.)

  • Knowledge of applicable computer software and operating systems.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and retrieve files from active or archive sources. Basic filing practices to include numeric and alphabetic systems.
  • Skill in preparing clear and concise reports, policies, procedures, correspondences, and other written materials.
  • Knowledge of office practices, procedures, and etiquette.
  • A valid State of Florida or Georgia driver\'s license or the ability to obtain.
This position will be required to complete the Bloodborne pathogen training, Evidence handling, and processing class (FDLE or recognized law enforcement training facility), and Crime scene photography class within 6 months of hire date.

  • Ability to understand and interpret terminology related to area of work.

Anticipated Salary Range





$36,250-$46,250 commensurate with experience
