This exam includes the standards required for the Department\'s compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) of 2003.
The Idaho Department of Correction is currently recruiting for a Plumbing Foreman, Correction. This position is not limited to performing the required licensed plumbing. The incumbent will also serve as a licensed level II Water Operator as required by the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality; supporting, monitoring, and proving requisite testing of the five domestic wells and two distribution systems at the South Boise Correctional Complex. This position involves lifting and carrying items weighing approximately 90 pounds, climbing ladders, and bending and stooping. This position also serves as a licensed level II water operator with responsibilities of the maintenance and operation of two domestic systems at the South Boise Correctional Complex. This is a working plumber position and subject to night and off-duty call-backs.

This announcement will be used to fill a vacancy at the South Boise Correctional Complex and provide maintenance oversight for one or all of the following to include South Boise Women\'s Correctional Center (SBWCC), Idaho Maximum Security Institution (IMSI), Idaho State Correctional Institution (ISCI), South Idaho Correctional Institution (SICI) and Idaho State Correctional Center (ISCC) and three regional work release centers.

Hiring lists may be created from open competitive, IDOC Department Promotional, or Statewide promotional applicants. The applications may also be used for future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months.

Example of Duties
  • Perform cost estimate and inspect & repairs piping systems, fixtures, fittings, valves, & related plumbing items to include cla-val, DBL check, and RP devices
  • Evaluate new methods and material for acceptability and adaptability to existing systems
  • Evaluate plans and specifications for compliance with plumbing codes
  • Install and repair water and waste lines
  • Maintains garbage disposals, water heaters, and pumps, mixing values
  • Plumb commercial kitchen facilities and specialized hospital and industrial type plumbing installations
  • Hire, train, and evaluate performance of inmate workers
  • Maintain custody of assigned inmates
  • Write contracted plumbing specifications
  • Issue and evaluate bids from private contractors
  • Recommend and coordinate bid selections and write purchase requests for ordering and maintaining plumbing parts
  • Verify issuance of plumbing permits and request permits for department projects
Minimum Qualifications
  • Licensed as a journeyman plumber in accordance with Title 54, Chapter 26, Idaho Code
  • Good knowledge of the tools, equipment, and material used in the plumbing trade
  • Good knowledge of safety practices associated with plumbing National code applicable to plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair
  • Some knowledge of supervisory practices
  • Experience using and maintaining tools and equipment associated with the plumbing trade
  • Experience interpreting construction blueprints for plumbing installations
  • Experience developing material and equipment lists and cost estimates for plumbing projects

  • Experience with water treatment

  • Completing a Background Investigation Questionnaire and pre-employment drug testing.
  • Having a federal and state criminal background check to include fingerprints
  • Having a history of law-abiding behavior
  • Felonies, misdemeanors, illegal drug usage, DUI\'s, adverse driving convictions and employment history may make you ineligible for employment
