.5 hours per day (9:30 am - 11:30 am) Wednesdays


.5 hours per day (11:15 am - 11:45 am) Conference/last days



Start and end times are subject to variation based upon changing needs

180 days/year (Student attendance days only)



60-day probation for new hires


Rate of pay: $20.62 - $23.68

Purpose Statement:





The job of Playground Assistant is done for the purpose/s of monitoring students and the recess environment; maintaining playground equipment; and evaluating situations to ensure a safe environment for students, staff and the District.


This job reports to Building Administrator

Essential Functions



Maintains recess equipment and playground for the purpose of ensuring a safe and sanitary environment.

Monitors students for the purpose of ensuring the safety and welfare of students.
Performs inventory of recess equipment (e.g. balls, cones, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items for students use. Prepares a variety of reports for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information. Responds to inquiries (e.g. students, teachers, administrators, and/or parents) for the purpose of solving problems, providing information and/or directing to other sources.

Other Functions



Assists students with schoolwork for the purpose of providing leadership and guidance. Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities




SKILLS are required to perform multiple, non-technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications.



KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: behavior and crisis management techniques; age appropriate activities; and safety practices and procedures.



ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. In working with other, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating in a positive, non-threatening manner; exhibiting tact and patience; and building effective relationships.

Working Environment




The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some stooping kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 80% walking and 15% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and a generally hazard free environment.

Experience

Job related experience is desired.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent.
