General Mechanic

About the Role:




The Plant Operations I position at South Central Hospital is a critical role responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe operation of the hospital's physical plant systems. This role focuses on maintaining, monitoring, and repairing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to support uninterrupted hospital services. The successful candidate will play a key part in minimizing downtime and optimizing the performance of essential infrastructure, directly contributing to patient safety and comfort. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying potential issues and implementing preventative maintenance strategies. Ultimately, the role ensures that the hospital environment remains compliant with regulatory standards and operates at peak efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications:



High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Experience in facilities maintenance or plant operations, preferably in a healthcare or similar environment. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics. Valid driver's license and ability to operate standard maintenance equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:



Technical certification or vocational training in HVAC, electrical, or mechanical systems. Experience working in a hospital or healthcare facility environment. Familiarity with regulatory compliance standards such as OSHA and NFPA. Basic computer skills for maintenance management systems and reporting. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Responsibilities:



Perform routine inspections and maintenance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other mechanical systems within the hospital. Respond promptly to service requests and emergency situations to restore system functionality and minimize disruption. Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections accurately in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with other facilities staff and external contractors to coordinate repairs, upgrades, and preventive maintenance schedules. Ensure all work is performed safely, adhering to hospital safety protocols and industry best practices.

The required skills enable the candidate to effectively perform daily inspections, troubleshoot system issues, and carry out repairs to maintain hospital operations.
