The responsibilities listed correspond with the duties of our Planner I position. The duties become more complex, and incumbents are expected to need less direct supervision as they progress through the Planner II and Planner III positions. The minimum qualifications and pay rates for all three levels are listed below. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in ArcGIS Pro software. Position Summary Under general supervision, handles a variety of activities related to the development review process. Duties include compiling, organizing, and analyzing statistical data or other information for planning activities and studies, performing site plan and development review, and assisting with the administration of land use regulatory controls and long-range planning activities. Key Responsibilities
  • Responds to inquiries using various means of communication from the public and other departments regarding development proposals, current zoning, future plans for vacant property, land use, comprehensive planning and other planning-related issues.
  • Maintains and updates database and geographic information files.
  • Reviews applications to the Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals to ensure compliance with the adopted rules and regulations of the Unified Development Code, including the preparation and presentation of staff reports at evening meetings.
  • Reviews for compliance with planning-related requirements, regulatory permits and licenses such as applications for home occupations, certificates of occupancy, sign permits, and fence permits.
  • Performs on-site planning inspections to ensure construction is in compliance with approved plans.
  • Conducts research and analysis to develop and/or update studies, reports, and codes in connection with the current and long-range physical, social, and economic development of the City, including the Comprehensive Plan.
  • Serves as staff representative for the Community Development Department for regional committees related to current and long-range planning or groups requiring planning-related involvement.
  • Coordinates with other department staff and serves as a team member to assist with analyzing problems, brainstorming ideas, and drafting a solution.
  • Provides support for interdepartmental special studies, specific projects, or research.
Environmental and Physical Factors This is light physical work requiring: ability to walk through active construction sites, sit for prolonged periods of time, and visual acuity to distinguish color to read maps and to inspect projects. Compensation and Benefits Planner I: Hiring range for this position is from $54,303 to $62,952 salary annually. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in urban planning, engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, geography, public administration or related field.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license.
  • Must complete NIMS level ICS100 and ICS700 training within one year of employment.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro software.
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in urban planning, engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, geography, public administration or a related field.
  • At least one year of experience in the planning profession. A planning-related professional internship may serve as experience.
Planner II: Hiring range for this position is from $59,032 to $68,434 salary annually. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in urban planning, engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, geography, public administration or a related field.
  • At least four years of experience in the planning profession.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro software.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license.
  • Must complete NIMS level ICS100 and ICS700 training within one year of employment.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in urban planning, engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, geography, public administration or a related field.
  • Professional certification in urban planning, engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, geography, public administration or a related field.
Planner III: Hiring range for this position is from $69,956 to $88,820 salary annually. Minimum Qualifications: 1. A candidate with all the qualifications on List A or List B: A)
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in urban planning, engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, geography, public administration or a related field.
  • Professional certification in urban planning, engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, geography, public administration or a related field.
  • At least six years of experience in the planning profession.
B)
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in urban planning, engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, geography, public administration or a related field.
  • Professional certification in urban planning, engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, geography, public administration or a related field.
  • At least eight years of experience in the planning profession.
