Job Description

UTILITY OPERATOR/PIPELAYER:

Operate heavy equipment machinery to excavate, fill, level and distribute material for installation of underground utilities such as sewer, water, storm sewer lines, gas, or electrical conduit. Operators must be able to dig for grade and utilize sloping, shoring, and benching techniques. Operate the following machines; excavator, front end loader, scraper, motor grader, roller, bulldozer, skid steer, backhoe, and haul truck. Dig around all live utilities, both underground and overhead. Maintain sub-grade and assist in setup grade. Set up center line and hold line while digging. Create level surfaces, grade slopes to specifications, remove material and fill voids using plans or a surveyor as guidance. Inspect equipment prior to use to ensure that it is in proper operating condition. Perform general labor duties as needed or required. Understand utility marking and know how to dig around them, along with operating equipment in close quarters of people, underground utility lines.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

:

Ability to compute and set grades using laser equipment to maintain desired pipe grade. Able to read drawings, plans and blueprints. Familiar with staking and checking grade. Must know the consistency of material and understand compaction techniques. Detail-oriented with the ability to process information quickly and accurately. Dependable and able to work independently with little supervision as well as with a team of individuals. Must have reliable transportation. Must have the ability to work extended hours as required by the workload. Must be 18 years of age or older

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIORNMENT

:

Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in all types of terrain Able to meet all physical requirements such as standing, walking, climbing, stooping, bending, and lifting 50 pound or more. Ability to work around loud noises and can tolerate being exposed to odors, gasses, dust, etc. Must be able to work in extreme temperatures, in confined spaces, and in excavated areas.
