Description

  • Under the supervision (direct/indirect) of the attending surgeon and supervising PA manages the care of patients in the inpatient/outpatient and OR setting.
  • Based on Departmental needs may be assigned specific areas of additional responsibility such as training, OR scheduling, coordination of specific patient care services.
Responsibilities

A. Administrative: * Plays an active role in the training of new employees. Assures that the training process meets department standards.
  • Provides continuity in patient care areas to assure that department and hospital policies concerning patient care standards are adhered to.
  • Participates in the ongoing quality improvement activities of the Department as assigned.
  • Plays an active role in the training of students. Assures that the training process meets department standards.
  • Participates in special projects as assigned.
  • Remains informed of patient management trends based on literature.
  • Represents department as indicated on hospital wide committees.
B. Clinical:

Performs the clinical duties of a Physician Assistant; * Within his/her scope of practice as outlined by the Department and approved by the Hospital\'s medical executive Committee.
  • For each individual patient as assigned by the patient\'s individual Attending of the Medical Staff or by the Department.
  • Under the direct or indirect supervision of the patient\'s individual Attending of the Medical Staff.
  • Within the privileges of that Attending of the Medical Staff.
  • Active participation in operating room.
  • Inpatient management of surgical patients.
  • Evaluate and manage care of surgical patients in the outpatient setting.
Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current Registration with New York State as a Physician Assistant.
  • Current NCCPA certification.
  • Certification may be required with American Heart Association Basic and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)/Basic Life Support.
  • Specialized certification may be required in specific skills (ie central line, PICC, advanced airway) as indicated by clinical scope of practice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability and skill to fulfill scope of practice.
  • The highest level of professionalism.
  • Demonstrated analytical ability of the level required to effectively diagnose and treat medical/surgical problems under the direction of physician; schedule and guide staff; provide teaching; and coordinate diverse clinical resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with hospital staff, patients and family members.
  • Possess the necessary manual dexterity and skills required for anticipated clinical duties and physical strength necessary for lifting and proper handling/positioning of patients.
  • Advanced knowledge of current electronic patient record and OR scheduling system.

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $63.1 - $83.62 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
