Summary
: Screeens patients and performs complete patient histories and physical examinations. Assesses and initiates treatment in conjunction with the attending physician, including trauma and consultations referred by the emergency room and other attending staff physicians. Orders necessary laboratory and diagnostic testing. Orders routine fluids, medications, diets, patient activities and similar patient orders under the supervision of the attending physician. Performs various technical procedures, i.e., aspiration of body fluids, starting IV\'s, cleansing and dressing wounds, applying splints, casts and giving injections. May assist physician on major or minor surgical procedures. Prescribes medications in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations under supervision of licenses physician if approved by the BPQA. Instructs patients on use of canes, crutches, medications and discharge instructions. Performs clinical assessments to identify routine and complex patient presentations, normal and abnormal laboratory and radiology findings. May perform emergency life-saving care and procedures such as cardiac massage, CPR, tracheotomy, tracheal intubation, etc.
