Special hiring rates:
$164,748.00 at Bateman Hospital
Board Eligible - $200,000.00; Board Certified - $220,000.00; Board Eligible + 4 years Experience - $231,000.00; Board Certified + 4 years Experience - $254,000.00 at BHHF for Physician Specialist (Psychiatrist)

Board Eligible - $120,000.00; Board Eligible + 4 years Experience - $138,000.00; Board Certified - $132,000.00; Board Certified + 4 years Experience - $150,000.00 at other locations
Performs professional medical work conducting mental, physical and neurological examinations of patients in a state facility. Both specialty and non-specialty positions may be available. Diagnoses illnesses; directs nurses, aides and others in the care and treatment of patients. Prescribes drugs and other treatment. Refers patients to other physicians for treatments out of the medical area. May testify as an expert witness as to the mental and physical state of the patient. Work is performed in county health departments, school or correctional infirmaries, and state hospitals (long-term care, psychiatric, acute care, clinics, veterans).
Physicians in the Office of Epidemiology and Health Promotion in the Department of Health and Human Resources, designs, conducts and prepares reports on epidemiological studies of communicable diseases, collects and analyzes epidemiological data, develops epidemiological data, develops health education materials, and provides expert consultation in the field of epidemiology. Develops research proposals, grant applications and epidemiological research.

Minimum Qualifications

Requirements for Physician Positions:
Training: Graduation from an accredited American or foreign medical school.

Experience: One year of internship or residency at an American or Canadian hospital for those holding a degree from an American or Canadian medical school. Three years of internship or residency at an American or Canadian hospital for those holding a degree from a foreign medical school.

Special Requirements: Physicians must pass the Federation Licensing Examination, the National Boards or an accepted board examination. Foreign physicians must have a valid certificate from the Educational Commission of Foreign Medical Graduates.

Requirements for Physician Specialist Positions:
Training: A temporary or permanent license to practice medicine or osteopathy in West Virginia, PLUS board certification,
OR, a temporary or permanent license to practice medicine or osteopathy in West Virginia and four (4) years of experience in the specialty area.

Appointments are often made above the minimum depending on applicant qualifications and the needs of the agency. The following base salary ranges apply:
PHYSICIAN $79,632 -$143,580
PHYSICIAN SPECIALIST $91,704 -$164,748
