Prior Authorization Coordinator - Pharmacy Technician

to join a growing healthcare team in

Edmond, Oklahoma

. In this role, you'll become an expert in insurance navigation, prior authorizations, and patient support, making a direct impact on patient care through clear communication and streamlined prescription access.

Edmond, Oklahoma (onsite)

Schedule:

Monday Thursday: 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.
Friday: 8:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

As a

Prior Authorization Coordinator -Pharmacy Technician

, you'll work closely with providers, insurance companies, and patients to make sure prescriptions are authorized, covered, and delivered without unnecessary roadblocks.

Key responsibilities:

Verify prescription benefits and patient eligibility Submit and follow up on prior authorizations for medications Reprocess insurance claims when necessary and resolve coverage issues Communicate with patients about benefit status, next steps, and expected outcomes Direct patients to appropriate copay assistance or savings programs Stay up-to-date on PBM policies, step therapy, and coverage guidelines Identify and remove barriers preventing medication access Maintain accurate records and manage tasks in the EHR system (Liberty experience a plus) Work closely with clinic staff to ensure timely medication delivery Maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA guidelines

REQUIREMENTS:

Experience:

2+ years of experience in pharmacy, benefits verification, insurance billing, or prior authorizations Specialty pharmacy experience is a

plus

Liberty system experience is also a

bonus

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent

Licensure:

Oklahoma Pharmacy Technician license is

preferred, but not required,

with relevant pharmacy experience

Tech Skills:

Familiar with CoverMyMeds, Microsoft Office, and EHR systems

Strong understanding of commercial PBMs, Medicare/Medicaid, and insurance formularies Familiarity with FDA-approved drug uses, pharmacy math, and dosage calculations Ability to navigate claim rejections and resolve medication access issues Clear, compassionate communication skills, especially over the phone Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong follow-through

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Fast-paced clinical office setting Heavy computer usage and data entry Ability to sit for extended periods

Do you have at least 1 year of hands-on Prior Authorization experience? Have you handled prior authorizations for controlled substances or high-cost medications? Have you used PA systems like CoverMyMeds, payer portals, or EMR-integrated PA tools? Do you have experience working with both commercial insurance plans and government payers (Medicare/Medicaid)? Do you have experience calling insurance companies to check status, clarify requirements, or appeal denials? Have you worked with pharmacists to gather clinical documentation for prior auth submissions? Have you worked directly with Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) such as OptumRx, Express Scripts, Prime, CVS/Caremark, or MedImpact? Are you able to commute to Edmond and work onsite Monday - Thursday (8am -5pm) and Fridays (8am - 1pm)?
