Job Description


Job Responsibilities: Assisting in the overall daily operations of the pharmacy department. Such services include, but not limited to purchasing, preparation and distribution of drugs; interaction with medical staff; and appropriate/timely submission/reconciliation of drug claims.

Education and Experience:



PTCB certified highly recommended and TN state technician license required. One to three years of experience working in a retail (ambulatory) pharmacy setting. Must be detailed oriented, able to multi-task and possess good people skills. Must possess both written and verbal communication skills in order to interact with patients and clinic staff.

Job Responsibilities:



TASKS: Assist pharmacist with the following activities:



Receiving, inventory management, and distribution of drugs and vaccines. Conducting routine inventories at clinic site and/or deliver medications upon request. Maintaining records, files and logs. Entering information into computerized database system for tracking, updating and compliance requirements. Contacting insurance companies when necessary to facilitate claim submission for prescriptions. Maintaining a clean and organized pharmacy. Performing other related duties as assigned by the pharmacist within the pharmacy or at clinic sites.

Other Duties:



Awareness and compliance with policies and procedures which encourage and maintain the standards of professional practice as such standards related to the dispensing of pharmaceuticals and conformance with Board regulations and all other applicable state and federal laws and regulations. Assists with prescription returns for credit and destruction. Assists with prescription insurance rebills and adjustments. Assist with any audits that may arise. Adhere to State and Federal laws and regulations. Maintains strict control over distribution and usage of government-controlled products such as narcotics and barbiturates. Ensure appropriate record keeping for each prescription filled for pharmacy files, for control files on narcotics, poisons, habit-forming drugs or for billing records. Assist in inventory control of pharmacy stock to an acceptable turnover to minimize the amount of expired medications. Assists with the completion of the semiannual physical inventory and annual controlled substance inventory. Assists in maintaining 340B inventory and appropriate records. Able to assist patients with prior authorizations for specialty medications. Proficient in enrolling patients in patient assistance programs

Requirements:



Communication skills. Pharmacy technicians frequently interact with patients, prescribers, and insurance companies. Good communication skills are vital for success. Detail oriented, whether performing data entry of prescriptions, transcribing telephonic prescriptions or ensuring patient is picking up the correct prescription. Assist in all activities and documentation related to dispensing medications. Facilitate new business and oversee timely and accurate delivery of services to clients. Comply with state & federal laws and regulations at a multi-state level. Ensure that billing & remittance documents and inventory control records are completed in an accurate and time sensitive manner. Participate in continuing quality improvement activities. Adhere to strict compliance with all standardized professional policies and procedures. Operate in a manner consistent with professional, ethical, and legal standards of proper pharmacy practice.
